Can you replace the buckles? They were both very stiff, and one cold morning a buckle snapped when I was opening it.

I think Vanguard should help? If you get a replacement buckle then any place with a professional sewing machine should be able to fit it. Saddlers, Chandlers & Sailmakers worth a try. Good Luck.

Yes it should do. I have a cannon with an 18-55mm lens which fits in perfectly. There are also compartments for other lenses. My second lens is a 55-200mm and that fits in comfortably

No, they're separate sections. The bottom wide one can take a tripod, lenses, or whatever you like. The top layer is adjustable to take your camera, lenses, etc. One doesn't restrict the other. It's a versatile well-made bag.

I know the 38 large says a maximum tripod length of 42, but could I squeeze a 3 Legged Albert in there which is 43cms?

My answer is I don't know, however half a cm each side for length shouldn't be a problem
