"As every amateur toxicologist knows, the difference between a poison and medicine is often simply the dose." There is no weapon as insidious, as seductive or as mysterious as poison. In this terrifying account of history's silent assassin, discover the gripping tales of users, abusers and victims of these mysterious substances, from Cleopatra and Catherine de' Medici to contemporary secret service agents and terrorists. Documenting royal scandal, political upheaval and personal tragedies, Poison details a gruesome thread that runs often undetected through human history. Review: Beautiful, interesting book 🌱 - Gorgeous book 🖤💚🖤💚 This book is chalk full of interesting information and history. It's not dry at all and it's the kind of coffee table boom that everyone asks about. The cover is beautiful and the pages feel like good quality. Overall I love it and my husband agrees! Review: Very Fun! - I adore how this book looks, the colours on the front, and how skulls appear on the page edges is just too cool! I adore authors who go the extra mile with little things like this! I love how informative this book is, bite sized information that can be further pursued if desired! This will make a perfect gift too...time for another book!

A great and interesting read
Not only does this appeal to the historical fans or the budding alchemists, but the writer takes an almost anyhropological approach to poisons in our history and relationship to these deadly botanicals

Plethora of information
Great read for researchers and history buffs. Like a lot of people, I got into true crime podcasts and have been curious about how some of these poisoners did what they did. This book is a fantastic source of information!

Curious read
I wish it was more in depth about plants and such, as I enjoy learning about all kinds of botanicals, but for a casual read - not bad. It has mostly brief intro into kinds of poisons and some historical examples, that's about it. Towards the end of the book it gets too political, goes into spy and cold war stuff and blames Russia for pretty much every political attempt to assassination, forgetting that all of those poisons that were developed originally by USSR had great opportunity to be spread across all former Soviet republics (and farther) in the late 90s during the fall of USSR, whether through theft or corrupt members of the military, lol.

Great book
Another great book that I got from the library but decided to buy it for myself. Information is included about many different poisons, the history of famous cases, and detailed descriptions and pictures of various toxins.

Very insightful an pleasant read
So I purchased this book because it looked like fun an ohh boy was it. All of the history details made reading this book much more fun, like the pages on jack the ripper and the parts about England earlier in the last century were very interesting. I new history had a lot to do with death but poisoning an what came of certain prisoner's really had me going. I really loved the lay out of the poisons an where they individually played a role and even some of the answers to what to compounds did it was quite mesmerizing. Although I bought and read the book I am definitely keeping this one and rereading it in the future I was also thinking of making it a family keep sake and writing on the front empty pages. I also hope to find more books as knowledgeable as this one. So five stars for me!
