1983 s More Fun in the New World marked yet another masterpiece for X; produced, like their first three albums, by ex-Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, it offered a surplus of great songs, highlighted by the riposte to the Reagan years ballad I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts and the rockers Breathless, Devil Doll and Hot House. This is the Expanded & Remastered Edition (complete with four bonus alternate demo/remix tracks and great liner notes/lyrics and photos) that went out of print years ago; it s an essential part of any rock library.

It's about some people in the strangest place!
This is the last truly great X record, a prophetic and wary look ahead at the worst excesses of the Reagan eighties. Like Los Angeles, Wild Gift and Under the Big Black Sun, Ray Manzarek guides their punk energy masterfully, producing short, sweet and pointed short stories masquerading as pop songs. The band was as tight as they would ever be (and as they still are today, as they've been touring on the gems from those four albums ever since). I'm hard pressed to think of a better rhythm section, a more charismatic pair of lead singers, or a more intelligent and varied set of musical influences within the punk rock scene. So this album is ironic and rueful, worried about things like the "British Invasion" and the "last American band," about the conformist pressures of the trickle down theory of Reaganomics ("I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts"), confident enough to cover a classic like "Breathless," and brave enough to stretch out into uncharted areas like new wave (the afore-mentioned "Bad Thoughts") and funk ("True Love Pt. #2," which, believe it, is a dance song). They could freaking play anything at this point, and you won't find a more honest or poignant look at the state of things in the pop landscape of America 1983. Even with that kind of specificity, the songs haven't aged a day. They're too lean and mean to ever go out of style.

So Much Fun!!
This is X at their peak. I agree with the notes in the cd, this is their most complete record. The first 3 are great, but this is X hitting on all pistons. The songs are consistent (not a bad or mediocre one in the batch), exciting and unique. Nice booklet with insights from the band and great pictures. The remaster sounds great, less echo & reverb, more punch and bass to the mix. All 4 bonus tracks are unique to this release, they are not on the Anthology double cd. Oh, but the music is killer, relentless, clever and strong. This album was the last produced by Ray Manzerak. He did a great job on the first 3 and he doesn't disappoint here. He didn't indulge in the crappy, poppy and "dated" '80s production of the time. You'll hear Punk, funk, rockabilly and blues here. This album is pure, evil, candid and one of the most delicious RNR albums you will ever hear. What are you waiting for?!

A time capsule of greatness
Not much can be said that hasn't already been said. X was in a class of their own, this is a prime example of why. Listen for yourself.

Ottimo lavoro senza cali
Volete mettere?!
