will this hook up to my garden hose or do I need a connector or something?

It comes with everything you need to hook up to your hose. They don't describe it very well in their packaging so do not buy the additional accessories.

I expected the Gardena Aquazoom to be metal-is there not a metal product with similar features?

There are products with more metal but this one is the best all-around that I've found.

Do any of the sprinklers control the height of the water sweep? The older models had a knob but I don't see it on any of these.

The best control for height of the spray is water pressure. Adjusting the pattern (width/distance) at a given pressure also affects the height.

I am thinking of getting another one, but concerned about it breaking. How strong are the little adjustments knobs? I change them often. Warranty?

I have two of these and love them when they are working. I have large areas to water and it is great for that. I have returned two units, one wouldn't rotate anymore and one was very leaky, water coming out from where it shouldn't. One lasted one year, more or less, one lasted only a few months. Both times I received a new unit under warranty but the postage to return these sprinklers is high and the warranty doesn't cover that. I suspect many people don't take the time and money it takes to return them. I have not had any problems with the adjustments and I also change them often. Hope this helps.
