Mitigating joint discomfort lifting heavy after 50
If you occasionally feel like working out mid life is a bit like working on your first car as a kid, while you were working on changing the front brake pads, the side view mirror fell off, this oil might be for you. As I progressively overloaded on some exercises, my left shoulder and left elbow started to complain. For whatever mobility reasons, my left shoulder hates back squats. My left elbow hates bent over barbell rows. I apply this oil liberally about 30 minutes before my workout, so much so that it slowly builds to a stinging sensation, and then settles into a soothing heat. It has made a world of difference for me, especially for my left shoulder. Now it's in my Subscribe & Save setup. Two caveats: 1, I've had it stain gym clothing, but I found soaking with Dawn dish soap easily removes it where my laundry detergent would not. 2, be very careful about getting this oil on any sensitive bits. When I apply it liberally to my shoulders, it occasionally gets close enough to my armpits to really sting. I don't think it's going to knock you out, but it does take some grit to get past the peak sting as the oil works its way into the soft tissue. As an aside, this was recommended to me by a trainer I hired for several months when I got serious about powerlifting. He is an US Army Reservist, amateur MMA fighter, and now a US Marshall who likely knows a thing or two about pain management (thanks again Nick).

Worth trying
Good stuff, seems to help with providing comfort after sustaining light bruises. Will definitely get more.

Namman Muay Liniment
Unlike the other sports rubs, this is a liquid that absorbs fairly fast, and you must get used to working it in, or have a partner help. When it penetrates, it gives a nice tingle similar to Ben-Gay or any of the other popular sportscreme-in-a-tube. Thai boxers use this stuff every day, and it helps them alleviate sore muscles, joints, and the like. If you have not seen Thai boxers in action, just YouTube "Muay Thai" to see an intense, demanding sport. I have used it on my calves (when I started jumping rope again) and my trapezius (when I started using a neck developer). You will only need a small splash, about the size of a half-dollar coin, and work it in thoroughly. It's pricey, but it does work well, whereas the sportscremes you get at the local drugstore only seem to make you smell like sportscreme...and nothing else.

This is the real deal. I put this one just when I step out the shower and it's like my whole body just got slapped by a hot chili pepper. It's HOT! But man it warms up well and it loosens up my muscles well. I put these on my calf and shoulders before training Jiu-Jitsu and it helps me stretch them out well. I slap them on again after training and let it soak in on the way home. When I step out the shower, I'll apply it again and sleep it off. When I wake up the next day, no pain whatever. Really happy I took the advice of fellow training partners and bought myself a bottle. I've used one bottle for the last few months and I train about 4 times a week and I still have more than half!

Eh, it’s maybe nothing
Not really feeling any difference since using this. I train mma and use this before training and for muscle aches and soreness the next day. I’ll keep this since it’s a novelty item to me, and the wintergreen smell is not overpowering and long lasting like other creams. I’ve had better soreness relief from the tiger balm, but that really smells strong and burns my skin.
