This book is beautifully presented and full of useful links, advice and step by step instructions clearly outlining the process for creating your website. I also like the way the author understands the visual needs of a website for people in the creative field. Well worth buying this book especially if you need to set up a site to show off your portfolio in a visually dynamic and interesting way.The author explores the use of themes in wordpress and additional plugins that will make your site unique. Also covers the very basics for beginners with no knowledge of wordpress.

I would avoid if you're looking for something that will help you actually design your own site - it stops short of providing any kind of information relating to CSS or HTML, something I personally find frustrating (I'm a creative person after all - I want control of the design and am willing to learn). However, it does help to cut through some of the crap that you might come across if you were to ask the internet for help. The language is clear, but sometimes feels a little too basic. There are instructions for things that should be quite obvious for anyone who's used social media before. So a good, simple guide for first-timers that I believe could've gone in to greater detail.

Great companion book in my opinion to Alannah's other book - "create your own website using Wordpress in a weekend", and like that book, this one is also perfect in both design and content. There is duplication between books, but for me that just enforced good build practice. I have her online store book on pre-order and can't wait to receive it later on in the month.

This book was very helpful for me in getting set up on wordpress, selecting plugins, themes and extras, and also for figuring out how to get the search engines to register my sites. Both complete novices and semi-tech-literate people like me will understand it readily. Also, it is a beautiful book-- a good decoration for your coffee table while you're immersed in it.

I will keep dipping into this as I get to know Wordpress more and more. But if you are a designer first and foremost and want to get into Wordpress this is definitely worth a read. It covers all the major areas which are important to learn.

Easy to navigate, lots of creative ideas and nice clear instructions. I would recommend this book to anyone building their first Wordpress website.

Books with a lot of graphic detail don't always have a lot of useful information. Here's the book that breaks that rule in glorious style. This is a superbly practical book, written in an orderly way that takes the reader through all the aspects of Wordpress they need to know. It's a book that feels good in the hand and in the head. A book of this quality is exceptionally rare. The title gives the impression that it is intended for artists and musicians but I believe it's a wondeful introduction to Wordpress for anyone. Congratulations to the author!

Very good but I could be better. Yes pictures, but this sometimes feels like more of magazine than "How to book" I love image sin book. Not enough value is place on this. But this book could go further and be excellent and provide more How to text content, rather than just showing what this is and that.Too much forced skim reading where pages explain the layout brief outline the the function an move on. I needed far more depth, instructional content which fairness I feel it lacked. I hope a later addition will amend these issues.Amazing potential in this book.Despite my negative criticisms from my is a helpful book. I recommend getting hold a good reference style WordPress book (WP All-In-One for Dummies or WP Missing Manual series) in addition to this one.

I was contemplating moving my websites to WordPress so I got this book to familiarise myself with the platform. I decided against. I'm not sure if I were any the wiser, having a deal of knowledge about website building as it is. (I've given away the book to a friend.)
