Basketful of Heads

1st off let me say, I was incredibly surprised by how well written this book is. You expect with horror to get some excitement, maybe some Gore, and a few scares. But the problem with horror is now a days it's rarely well written. Thank God for Mr Hill! I've never read any of his novels but I may have to give them a try, because this graphic novel is incredibly well written. I figured it would be very predictable, but even halfway through the book it was still surprising me. If you like horror, especially horror with a phenomenal plot and realistic writing, give this one a shot. You won't regret it!

I was looking for a new read. I have read Joe Hill before. NOS4A2 was a good read, so I spent $17 on this. I certainly did not see that this was not a novel before I made my purchase. It's a comic book for god sake! I didn't like comic books even as a kid and that was a long time ago. I have tried to read this since I did pay for it. It's impossible, because it's garbage! Sorry Joe, but you and Amazon tricked me into this purchase. My bad.

Not as good as Hills Locke and Key but its a fun read. Read it in one sitting. Not scary or suspenseful its almost a Dark Comedy. You'll fall in Love with the main character JUNE ;)

The concept of this graphic novel by Joe Hill is pretty great and the delivery is almost as good. The story feels perfectly suited for a big summer movie, reminding me of I Know What You Did Last Summer. More in style, of course, than story. The art is very impressive and the dialogue feels, for the most part, organic and fun. From what I have read of Joe Hill, this is one of his better projects, and is easily his most mainstream, although still edgy and gruesome at times. I find it difficult that any horror fan would not enjoy this, if not downright love it. My only complaint is the large number of coincidences throughout and the fact that that things were tied up a little too neatly at the end. Those issues aside, this was one of the best graphic horror novels I've read in years.

There's A Judas Priest song "Some Heads are gonna roll" that is quite fitting here since June makes quite a few roll. If decapitation with a Viking axe doesn't suit your fancy then you need to reassess your taste of fine literature. All joking aside, this one-off Graphic novel is slam packed with character complexity, twists and turns, and amazing artwork. Don't forget the humor which Joe Hill always blends seamlessly with the suspense and horror. June Branch is an awesome female character that is reminiscent of Ellen Ripley from Alien who also goes from an ordinary female to the quintessential bad-ass.Going from reading the Locke and Key series which I loved and feel is a classic already in literature, Basket ful of Heads delivers a lot of the same rush and vibes I get from other Joe Hill works condensed into one story. Don't pass this one up. Some heads are gonna roll...

I picked this up never reading any of the authors books... Wow I was amazed. Honestly didn't know where the story was going till the end.

...because honestly, this book is a great mystery/conspiracy story, even without the basket full of heads! The supernatural part of the book could be completely removed, and this would still make a solid story of deceit and double crosses. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! BUY IT!

Even for the macabre subject matter, it was an entertaining story. I really enjoyed it. So did my wife. There was just enough humor added to the horror part of the story.
