The Legend of Korra - Book Two: Spirits
A**S
Inferior to Book 1, but Still a Fantastic Ride
We began Book 2: Spirits with a lot of hope and expectation. For all its faults, Book 1 was very much a great season and show. In the next adventure, Korra returns to the Southern Water Tribe, reuniting with her parents, but also her uncle, the leader of the Northern Water Tribe (and also the Southern). This meeting helps to create a rift between Korra and Tenzin, her mentor and air bending teacher, and also is the site of the introduction of malevolent dark spirits. As one can guess, the spiritual world will play a major role in the show, and certainly does. While not to spoil the events of the show, Korra is soon faced with relationship problems with Mako (a bit tired), problems with her uncle's desire to bring a renewed spiritualism to the Southern Water Tribe, by the edge of a water whip, if need be, Mako and Bolin have their own problems, and Tenzin takes his family, plus his introduced sister and brother (the rest of Aang's kids) on a vacation to the various Air temples around the world.Pluses: We get to see more of the world of Avatar in the age of Korra, particularly the Southern Water Tribe, but also the spirit world and its on and off again dangerous inhabitants. The music by Jeremy Zuckerman continues to be incredible, and everyone should demand the release of the soundtrack from Book 2. We're introduced to a new chaotic character in the form of a Southern Water Tribe multi-millionaire, Howard Hughes / Thomas Edison figure, who is generally entertaining. Other new characters, not already mentioned, include Korra's cousins, though, they seem to exist for much of the series more as comic emo elements than really alive characters. A major, major plus is the two episode story of Wan, the first Avatar. If one were to watch or buy this season for just one reason, Wan and origin of the Avatar, is definitely one to work from. One reason is the animation, which is a stand out in a season that actually suffered from a degradation in animation quality (more on that later). The creativity and fun injected into Korra's world is also still present.Cons: The animation for a number of the first half episodes. Success can be a bad thing! Due to time and money constraints, the Korean studio that did most of the work on Book 1, were unable to do a number of the episodes in Book 2. A Japanese studio was picked, and one with fairly good credentials, but the results were definitely noticeable. In these episodes, which aren't in the majority, there's more stiffness to the characters, less creativity and hard work apparent. It's a jarring sensation, but thankfully, the episodes are carried on the shoulders of all the pros mentioned above. Another negative is the ongoing relationship triangle between Mako, Korra and Asami. Those embers are still not quite extinguished and for the most part, the show would do better without it. Likewise, Mako is given something of a running B storyline, which requires a bit of a suspension of disbelief in the behavior of our favorite chief of police, Bo Lin, for example. It's the weakest story element in Book 2, and again, probably could have been handled better.Overall: Still a great season of Korra, and hands down, one of the best animated shows on television. If you enjoyed the first, then watch/buy the second season of Legend of Korra. If you were on the fence after season 1, then perhaps pass this season on, as it was generally a bit weaker. Give the Wan two parter a go, and it may just suck you in for the rest of the season, though! And again, still awesome music from Jeremy Zuckerman. Buy the soundtrack from the first if you haven't yet! (We need a soundtrack for Book 2, after all!)If you

Love It
As a 25 year old woman, I grew up on the original ATLA and it took me a while to come to terms with a new avatar. Once I moved past the nostalgia and opened myself up to LOK I was hooked immediately.I've read other reviews comparing the two and for me it comes down to a few simple things:This is a DIFFERENT avatar. Just how I can appreciate Aang for always trying to remain peaceful and balanced, I can also appreciate Korra for her hotheadedness. Fact is she is in a world that does not need an avatar and its refreshing to see her character develop throughout the series. (Honestly I would love to see a 3rd series with Avatar Kyoshi which would be a completely different story arch too!) Seriously though, how many times do we want to see the same regurgitated story line where a character has it completely together, knows their purpose and how to accomplish it? This makes the difference with LOK and why I enjoy watching it.Next, the supporting characters that make up Team Avatar are not master benders. There shouldn't even be an argument here. ATLA Katara was a master after book 1 and Toph is just a bamf from the very beginning. For LOK we aren't dealing with that at all. So sure we can't expect kick ass bending but again, its for taking it for what it is. I feel like LOK makes up with that some seriously awesome fighting sequences.BOTTOM LINE: I love ATLA, the comic series and LOK. Fans who love the original, who can appreciative 2 different characters with 2 different journeys will love this show as well. It still is it the best animated programming I have ever come across.

4.5 Stars rounded up to five. Epic Avatar back story!
This is so hard to rate because I really do love it, and the story is excellent, but the first few episodes were stupidly predictable although still entertaining. After the seventh episode I simply couldn't stop watching. They made some really cool changes with the animation for episodes 7 and 8 as they fill in the back story of the very first Avatar.I feel like there are always some details that get skipped over, like the fact that Korra had mastery of all four elements and yet she is still easily overpowered by a water bender. And the evolution of technology has baffled me since the first season. I feel like there's a lot of details missing from Aang's adult life.We get more exposure to Tenzin's awesome siblings. General Iroh, on the other hand only showed up for a minute, maybe two at most, for the whole season. The whole Korra Mako relationship is a mess. In fact, Korra's character in general is a mess. She's so hot headed and rash to the point that she deserves to get beat up for all of her stupid decisions. Bolin is entertaining, and there are plenty of characters who bring comic relief to this season, but I still miss Sokka.Overall, there are a lot of great elements to this season, but as much as I love it, I don't think it reaches the same 5 star level as Avatar: The Last Airbender. I had this same struggle when rating the first session, and I think I caved and gave it 5 stars, because really these are like 9.5 stars on a 10-point scale and just don't merit a mere 4 stars on a 5-point scale. So 4.5 stars rounded up to five

Blu-ray awesome! Book two kinda boring.
This Blu-Ray is Amazing! i watch the show all the time on streams but this is way better quality than i have ever scene and all the bonus footage is incredible. I didn't really like the second season that much but this blue ray version is the best way to watch it. If you liked the second season or are just getting all the seasons in hard copy i highly recommend this Blu-ray to add to your collection.

Korra lifts the spirit.
Aeei !Why are so many reviewers knocking this series ?I was a little hesitant when buying Koora book 2 because of the negative reviews. How foolish of me.This book is as fantastic as the first ! I have absolutely no hesitation inawarding it 5 stars.I thought the spiritual journey of both Korra and her mentor,Tenzin, very entertaining.I replayed several times the opening scene with Korra riding on an air ball racing around the island.I'm really pleased that Tenzin's children played a greater part in this series and even contribute to Korra'seventual success.Team Avatar still makes for great fight scenes and they come up with some brilliant plansto outwit the bad guys. The bad guys being the spirit of light and the spirit of darkness,Raava and Vaatu. This great season reveals more of the antics of the first Avatar, how he got his power to control the elementsand how the mastery of all four was necessary to imprison Vaatu.I must admit to quirming in my seat when Korra seemed to be defeating Vaatu and was about to imprison Him/itthe first time.I thought the fight was all too easy...,then Wham, she gets punched in the back with a water columndelivered by her cruel Uncle.Hooray ! It wasn't so easy after all ! One of the new features of this season is that Korra can switch on her Avatar'booster' energy. It doesn't always give her the winning advantage but Hey,she's still in training, right ?The animation is fantastic and even if some parts aren't 100% what some people want to see,the effort put inby the creators is too good to miss.I think sometimes, people forget that everything you see on screen is drawnand not just somebody filming out on the street.I adore animation and welcome and enjoy every pen stoke. There is some great attention to detail with excellent colours and concepts.Just my sort of thing. The Legend of Korra is the best !I'm really glad I didn't watch any of The last Airbender series before seeing this one.I might have thought a sequel wouldn't work as well as it does.Woo hoo, lucky me !And,and...,there's four whole books in the series to drool over !Breathe, breathe, calm down,it's only an animated series...Yeah,right,as if !I want more...,and when do I want it ?!Now !Yay...

Die Ursprünge des Avatars...
The Legend of Korra spielt rund 70 Jahre nach dem 100.
