Soft close wooden seat with chrome hinges
Great seat looks expensive, it was 37.99 but worth paying extra,.with its large chrome hinges that you can just turn and remove for cleaning ..but not cheap plastic ones that are easy clean But easily break and seat ends up moving. I have and old style toilet and difficult to get a seat to fits without it eventally moving had this fitted a week and its still in place So easy to fix in place, took minutes Downsides The seat is soft close it does take it a while to close, i do have to push the lid firmly down to give it a fighting chance to close with in a minitue And i could imagine if you had a large belt buckle and hit it could possibly chip it. Overall impressed would recommend.

BUY IT IF YOU WANT TO LITERALLY THROW YOUR MONEY DOWN THE TOILET!!!
I have been another victim of these Amazon "reviews"! BEWARE, buyers! The toilet looks very nice, it is soft close, it is made of (almost) wood, so it is not cold to the touch, and it had the best hinges I've ever seen on a toilet seat, so it does not move at all, which was a problem I was havingwith my older model. Overall it had ALMOST everything to be a really nice toilet seat. UNBRIDLED GREED, however, is a stern master, and the people at Bemis submit to it with wanton abandon. This marvellous toilet seat, which costed me ยฃ35 (!), by the way, have only TWO (2) BUMPERS on the bottom, whereas EVERY OTHER TOILET SEAT IN THE FACE OF THE EARTH HAVE FOUR (4). How much have they skimmed here on profits? A whopping extra 50 cents on their pockets? Are Bemis executives on their way to their private island on the Caribbean on their corporate yacht paid for the sweet, sweet skip-2-bumpers money? I would think so, because it makes NO SENSE! If you are wondering why just 2 bumpers on the bottom make that much of a difference, it is because you don't know how a lever and fulcrum work. Quick version is: As soon as you put some weight on something that has NOTHING underneath to bear the load (yes, your arse), it immediately BREAKS. Don't believe me? See the pictures, oh ye of little faith! If you weigh as much as a 4-year-old, I guess this will be no issue for you. Maybe Gisele Bundchen could use this toilet seat and not break it; but them it should have a disclaimer: "For toddlers or supermodels ONLY!". Alas, it does NOT have it, so it should have 4 BUMPERS like a normal toilet seat. 2 things will happen if you buy this toilet seat: a) it WILL break and you would feel you tossed your money, metaphorically and literally, on the toilet, and b) you will wonder why you didn't take my warnings seriously.

Very good value for money
Bought to replace an old Bemis toilet seat. It's a very good seat, easy to install and to keep clean. Highly recommended.

The best in comfort, but poor build quality and the finish fades over time
Excellent toilet seat for most DIY bought toilets. It's oval in shape and fits very well. I purchased this to replace a previous model of the same type, albeit not chrome, which snapped at the hinge after 3 years. In this time the sitting area of the previous model had diminished far beyond what they look like new as the white paint on the wooden seat doesn't hold up well to cleaning chemicals, making it unhygienic over a long period. The plus sides are that it's rock-solid in use (tip: use silicone in the toilet basin holes when mounting the screws) and it has a very comfortable seat. I was able to use the existing fittings, which were steel screws several years ago, and didn't need to redo the whole installation with the new nylon plastic screws so I've kept them as spares. This made the replacement a breeze; quick and easy. I think I'll purchase a spare at some point and try out applying a durable wood lacquer. Update 1: I've had this toilet seat for a few weeks and it's already showing signs of deterioration in the paint, despite not using anything harsher than antibacterial wipes and spray. Update 2: A few months later and the toilet seat has split at a barely noticeable hairline crack I initially ignored due to needing a seat right away. [Amazon were helpful with this defect by sending out a replacement, but required the defective seat to be returned]. Update 3: Replacement seat working perfectly. I sanded and coated this seat in a heavy clear lacquer and it's been absolutely amazing. Any dirt cleans up and off it right away. This is the way they should be sold from factory. I highly recommend getting a spray lacquer for a perfect smooth finish or painting it on with a roller.

155mm fixed spacing = no movement
If you have 155mm between holes and access to the underneath of the holes, then look no further, this is a great seat at a reasonable price. Good: Fixed hole spacing = no adjustment mechanism to loosen off and make the seat wobbly Soft close = no more seat banging Easy remove = easy to clean right underneath the hinges I recently got fed up with not having a soft close seat in the en-suite. The others in the house are soft close, so I'd forget and it would slam down. Replaced it with one of these, and it's so much better. The adjustable gap seats, all use a similar mechanism that over time go loose (body weight + leverage overcomes the rubber washers). This fixed distance (155mm) fitting is much easier and is rock solid. The downstairs one is being replaced next, as it gone wobbly... Remove the old seat, put the plastic bolts firmly in the fittings, put in place, use a 16mm spanner/socket to do up the bottom fixers, and when the sheer nuts break off it's tight enough. Took longer to get the old one off, than to fit the new one!

Bemis Chicago
easy to install. Need a 16mm spanner. Note some people complain that the toilet seat breaks -- easy to see why -- there are only 2 little rests on the underside of the seat --- should be 4. If you are on the heavy side, have a look at the Bemis New York --it may have 4 rests.
