Nine Men's Morris Book of Board Game Strategy: For the Game Known as Mills, Merels, Mühle, Malom or Cowboy Checkers

The media could not be loaded.  Nine Men's Morris is a great game. Though easy to play it can be hard to win. The really good players know quite a few tricky moves. And so, this book is a great help for those of us just starting out.

This book is a wonderful resource into understanding and mastering this unique and ancient game. After reading only the first several chapters my gameplay increased in strength and my understanding of the strategic underpinnings of the game got much deeper. It is clearly written, logical in format and a very good way to gain strength in Nine Men's Morris. Altogether a superior book.

I love playing The Mill game! This is a must read for anyone serious about playing 9 Men's Morris!

I bought this book to be able to learn some strategies with the game and I believe it will do just that. There are many examples of individual Chess games available that you can turn from notation to graphic representation on your own board at home, to "see" strategy, but this is the only one like that for Nine Men's Morris, which may be as old or older than Chess. Most of this book reads like that very detailed notation, and is therefore dense reading. He has some interesting notes on the history of the game and also its rules, but strangely has them at the back of the book in appendices rather than at the beginning where I would expect them. The book has 294 pages, about 2/3rds of an inch thick. The game also has other variations of 3 Men's, 5/6 Men's, Lasker 10 Men's as well as 12 Men's Morris, and a South African 12 version called Morabaraba. This book's author John Mamoun mentions Laskers and Morabaraba, but his work is focused exclusively on 9 Men's Morris. He does suggest indirectly how others could probably do similar work with computer software for other games of strategy that could benefit from this treatment.
