Less than a perfect printing job..... but
it's still a fantastic book by one of my all time favorite artists. For the most part the printing is spectacular and that hasn't always been the case when Genesis takes a book like the Jimmy Page or Led Zeppelin and then makes a sort of discounted version. The images are mostly stunning and sharp and vibrant. There are a few pages where the registration is slightly off on the colors which will give a slightly out of focus to the images but they are thankfully rare. The book is heavy on images and light on content but Jeff does provide that for every song. If you are a fan this is a luxurious item to add to your collection. The concert on audio and video is a must and this is a great addition. I'm so happy this great artist is getting the reception he deserves for his body of work and is enjoying and documenting it for us fans.

You had to be there.
Let me start by saying that Jeff Lynne is my definition of musical genius. ELO music is the soundtrack of my life and my go to jams in good times and bad. That said, I was disappointed in the book. I pre-ordered well in advance and waited an additional two months for delivery. I sent this pic to my family with a note saying “If you need me I’ll be reading. Please don’t need me” . They got it because they know what a fan I am. One hour later I finished the book, not because I’m a speed reader, but because this is basically a concert program: a picture book. To be fair to JL I devoured and reread the short blurbs and insights about his inspiration and timeline of accomplishments. But the majority of this book is comprised of photos of the concert, the musicians, their resumes and statements of affirmation by JF of they’re talent. What did I expect? A career profile including the inspiration for each song on the playlist. I understand that the relationship between old ELO and JL’s ELO is seemingly not good but to have no mention of the original band members negates the sound and look of the ELO that changed my life upon hearing New World Record and most ELO fans. The timeline at the end was very interesting, I learned a few things. I titled this review “You had to be there”. I’m sure had I been at the Wembley show the book might have resonated with me, but I wasn’t. I wish I was there, as any chance to hear JL live brings me joy. I’ve seen Jeff Lynne’s ELO at the Hollywood Bowl in LA and PPG Paints arena in Pittsburgh, both epic shows. I didn’t buy the concert programs because no photo review can ever match the beauty of “being there”. I’m not completely jaded, when the tour comes to my city I’ll gleefully buy a ticket and await the “sure to be a best seller” autobiography of Jeff Lynne. Wembley or Bust left this fan hungry.
