Stories of a Paratrooper in Occupied Japan: A Clerk and Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division in Sendai, Japan in 1946-47 after WW II. Stories of a Paratrooper in Occupied Japan: A Clerk and Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division in Sendai, Japan in 1946-47 after WW II. Review: Wonderful read - Well written - Great photos - Just finished the book and would highly recommend it to those looking for a perspective of the Japanese occupation through the eyes of a young soldier. Athough I never had the chance to meet Norman Hansen, I have the pleasure of knowing his son Barry. My father-in-law who recently passed away at 96 years old was also in the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific. The time our country spent after the war in the Pacific and in Europe were critical times and Norman was part of it all! Thanks for the book and Godspeed Norman! Review: Easy Reading and Enjoyable Personal Account, not of Much Historical Value - I read this to my 93 year old dad who was in Sendia with the 1st Airborne from September, 1945 to October, 1946. He is blind and not too responsive, but it seemed that he appreciated this book much more than the in depth historical accounts of the 1st Airborne in the Philippines and Okinawa prior to the end of the war. Dad was among the first of the US Army to enter Japan after they surrendered and guarded General McArthur's quarters in that time period. He later went to Sendia to finish his time of service. I appreciated Norman Hansen's heart of love for his grandchildren as he obviously wrote this book for them!

Good historical book
My dad, 11th airborne, served in occupied Japan. He was so happy that this time period in history has been documented. He loved reading this book.

Good basic Army life info.
Liked it. Not many books about our occupation of Japan. However, the author writes that he used an IBM Selectric typewriter while he was a clerk in 1946. The IBM Selectric was invented in July, 1961.
