Easy to install, save yourself from the tailgate slam!
I went from a 2014 Silverado to a 2009. It was lacking the slow drop function. This is easy to install, works just like a newer truck, and allows me to drop the tailgate with one hand. No way will I live without this feature!

Works as intended
Love this tailgate assist! Installed it on my 2012 Silverado 3500HD. Opening the tailgate is nice when I don’t have to support it all the way to the full open position. Install was a breeze and pretty straight forward. Would recommend for anyone with a pickup truck.

Nice to have
Fits 2014 Silverado 3500. Best modifications for any truck. Highly recommended.

Happy with our purchase
We first purchased a cheaper model from different vendor, only to find out it would not self tap. Thus, we returned it and purchased a DZ one. Super easy to install, just as the directions state. We, however, have an Avalanche and this is not recommended for them due to the weight of the tailgate. Our first install left slack in the tailgate cables. Fearing it would snap the DZ absorber, we modified placement about an inch lower. It works great, hopefully it will withstand the weight.

Works Great!
This thing works great for dropping the tailgate slowly on my 2017 Silverado. I tried to save a few bucks by going with a cheaper off-brand model first, but the craftsmanship was very poor, to the point that it wouldn't even go together correctly due to having powder coated the ball ends, which wouldn't allow the shock to install,Sent that one back and decided to spend the money on the real-deal and got this one. Works great and didn't take long to install all. Lesson learned, it's usually better to pay a little more for better quality up front that dealing with frustrations of poorly made knock-offs.

Fits 2007-2013 Avalanche, with a little adjustment.
I picked up one of these kits initially just to see if it would fit my 2007 Avalanche. Good news is everything lines up perfectly like it belongs there, but the shock is just too short and holds the tailgate up a touch. That said I know most gas shocks have one end that is threaded and as luck would have it these are as well. I found that 1-1/2 turns of loosening let's the gate sit on it's cables. So I took the threads all the way out, hit it with blue thread locker, and wound it back in and the out the 1-1/2 turns. Alright great, that works, but it still seems like the gate comes down a bit fast for my liking. Passenger side looks like it should fit one of these too, so I got another kit. Same deal as driver side, needs 1-1/2 to 2 turns, but there is a problem. On the driver side the hinge is a full "cup" design while the passenger is a C. The C let's ya remove the tailgate as ya lower it if needed. Well the shock hangs up enough that it pulls the gate off the hinge. Not a big deal, I threw two zip ties around the cup and covered them with electrical tape so they are less visible and don't slide off. Seems to do the trick.
