Adds security and ease of use. A good replacement for traditional keyed doors.
Purchased two of these, with installation straightforward, and no additional wood working needed. They both function well with the included 9v battery, and the color is accurate and attractive. I've always stuck with this brand.

LOVE THESE KEYPAD DEADBOLTS
Have been using these keypad deadbolts for over 12 years and installed them on over six homes. I have one that is on an entry door that is exposed to western sun and occasional rain and it still continues to work. These are a heavy-duty grade deadbolt in addition to the keypad. I like that you can quickly program four digit codes and remove them just as quickly. These deadbolts come in handy especially when having a house sitter or workers coming and going from your property. Love not having to carry any keys when leaving the house for a walk or going to work.I have no interest in the newer locks that use your phone to operate. What if I lose my phone or leave it somewhere? I also like this deadbolt because it is manually operated by simply twisting the knob to open or lock it. The powered deadbolts go through batteries a lot faster and with this manual knob, you can feel it and be sure it locks. The key option is something I never had to use but is a nice feature if you're new to these and feel comfortable having that option. One 9 volt battery lasts me from 3 to 5 years and this unit will you a warning when it's time to replace.

Don't buy from Amazon, buy it in person.
The wife and I just bought a house that already had this lock on the front door. Being unfamiliar with the lifespan of the lock and with an unknown number of copied keys out in the wild I ordered the same one off Amazon (none in stock locally) with Amazon as the seller.Red flag #1: The lock arrived in my mailbox, as it should. However, it arrived in the manufacturer's box without a lick of tape on it anywhere (I'm guessing whomever picked it off the Amazon Warehouse shelf just slapped a shipping label on it and called it good) and the large flap was open.Red flag #2: I finish opening the open box and remove the lock assembly. Parts immediately fall off the thing.Red flag #3: While there is a Quick Installation Guide, there is no user manual (but there should be because the previous owners left the manual that came with their lock with the house). So now there is a manual out in the wild (but probably trashed) that has the access and programming codes on it.Since this is a like-kind replacement, installation should be easy right? It actually is, just a handful of screws. 20 minute job.But once the replacement is complete, I test the lock and the lock refuses to engage from the outside. I pull the new lock off and put the old lock back on. Works just fine. Old lock off, new one on, again no dice. I spend the next couple of hours head scratching and exploring. The following is what I discovered:Normally the locking mechanism spins freely. Punch in the code, a little solenoid engages a ratchet mechanism for ~30 seconds, the locking mechanism turns the deadbolt. However, on the new lock the solenoid appears to engage (I see the things move that should move, although the motion is a heck of a lot rougher on the new lock than the old one) but the locking mechanism continues to just spin freely. No amount of poking, prodding, or persuasion could get the ratchet to engage the lock. This is where my situation will differ from most: Since this is a like kind replacement, I just remove the key/cylinder from the new lock and put it in the old lock. So back together with the old lock for the umpteenth time, but with the key/cylinder. Works like a charm. I punch in the programming code, delete all the existing door codes, make a new door code, test it all works as desired and then walk away. No wild keys. No wild codes. In any other situation I would be asking for a replacement. However, since I ended up using the key & cylinder from the new lock I wouldn't feel right sending back. Besides, a new key & cylinder and a couple hours of locksmith labor would probably end up as much as the cost of the replacement lock or more.TL;DR-Shame on Amazon for lousy shipping procedure QC (everything else arrives double boxed with 18 wraps of bubble wrap).-Shame on Schlage, one of, if not the, biggest names in the lock industry for the product QC.

I have too many of these!
I love these locks. Super easy to install if you are even a little bit handy and can follow instructions. You can change codes very easy.I am a contractor and put these on almost all my customers homes. Very secure and the only down side is if you leave the battery that is low and warning you to change it, and you don't change it, you will then have to use the key that comes with it to get access.Takes a 9 volt battery that lasts for years I have found. Battery is very easy to change and like I said, it will warn you when it is getting low. I used it once for 3-4 months on low battery before it stopped working every time.Highly recommend.

Great product
This is the third time I have purchased the same product for 3 different houses. It is easy to install, easy to program, easy to use and a great product for the price. If I need to give someone access to my home I just give them a code. If I want to go for a run, no need to carry a key or hide one outside. The key pad lights up when you touch any key so no need for a night light. When you want to lock the door as you leave you just hit one button so no need to type in your 4 digit code. Lastly, it’s a deadbolt, the best method to keep (honest) people out.
