Good book
It's not the bible when it comes to the garden in the winter, but its a good reference book with some great ideas. I would recommend it.

Inspiring & Uplifting Garden Reference
In the dead of winter, most of us see only greys and white outside of our window, this book helps you to explore all of the beauty that this quiet time of the year can hold. It is a great reference book and I feel that it will make every gardener take a fresh look at winter and truly making your garden a year round feast for the soul.

Watch Out! Errors and invasives recommended.
This book contains a lot of good advice on an important subject. But, while multiflora rose is aptly noted a menace, the author has "learned to live with it" instead of instructing readers to eradicate it. A number of invasive species are discussed as though they're just another option for the reader to plant; privet hedge, myrtle, wintercreeper, wisteria, miscanthus, japanese barberry. The use of these plants should be discouraged, especially given the fact you can buy them at any home improvement or garden center. The problem is, they escape cultivation and disrupt natural systems by reducing biodiversity.Another concern is the caption for the photo on page 45 mislabels a dwarf spruce as a blue rug juniper. Let's hope that was an editing oversight but, it's not something I'd think Rodale would be comfortable having in publication.

An eye opener
I am a new gardener and I had never considered gardening for winter beauty. It certain can make a difference to look out my window on a dreary day and see red berries, colorful stems, golden evergreens and early flooring bulbs. This book is filled with good ideas.

A real book by a real gardener
I love that this book is so personal, a real glimpse into the author's life with lots of insights about what it means to really be a gardener. Brava! The book is a beautiful example of a real book vs. "books" pieced together by editorial teams responding to what they hear from focus groups. Hooray for personality and individuality!
