GE scam alert this filter works fine see instructions......
Okay listen carefully as I have figured out the whole leak detection BS GE has engineered into their filter replacement scheme. I had the same thing show leak detected, which will not allow water or ice to be made. The fact that there is an immediate alert of leak detection caught my attention as it should for the rest of you. I removed the filter and took notice to other details that could cause this alert to happen, if you'll notice on the GE filter there is a magnetic circular object taped to the back side of the filter. Remove the tape and sensor and tape it onto the backside of your filter in the exact position of the original filter. Unplug your refrigerator and reinstall the new filter then plug your refrigerator back in. This magnetic ID tag will show the correct GE filter is in place, however, it will show that the filter still needs to be replaced. The reason is GE has so magnificently coded each individual filter with its own ID number embedded in the magnetic strip. The refrigerator will show the same ID tag is in place there for showing the original filter has not been changed. And they know that people will eventually just use the original equipment filters to avoid the embarrassment of friends and family seeing the filter expiration on the screen.... I'm pretty sure what they've done is illegal forcing you to buy GE product only that will properly work in your refrigerator. There needs to be a class action lawsuit against them as this is completely illegal in the automotive industry, therefore, why wouldn't it be illegal in every other industry which forces consumers to only buy their replacement parts. Again the filter works perfectly now, however, still shows that it needs to be replaced.

... purchased this item and I could not be more pleased! The packaging was excellent and a visual inspection
I recently purchased this item and I could not be more pleased! The packaging was excellent and a visual inspection, when compared to the GE original equipment that I removed, showed that they were identical, at least to the naked eye. I purchaced two GE OEM filters before and refused to change them, even though the warning light indicated that I should do so, until the ice maker "slowed to a crawl." I just could not beleive that I spent a little over $55.00 each time for the OEM filters. My thoughts were, "This is highway robbery!" At that point, I was willing to put the "plug" back in the unit and not use a filter at all. When I found this filter on Amazon at about half-the-price, I thought it might be worth a try. I read all the reviews - good and bad - and thought that it was, at the very least, worth a gamble. Any original hesitation that I had was soon dispelled when I installed it. It when in as easy as (if not more so) than the first two OEM filters that I purchased and I only had to run about three sixteen-once glasses of water before it ran clear. It doesn't leak and I could not be happier with my purchase. The next time, though, I will buy the two-pack to save a little bit more. There is no virtue in overspending!

Works for rpwfe with a trick
You can order a ge bypass filter for Free by calling the GE customer service (and giving them your fridge serial number). Then removed the RFID chip under the label carefully using a utility knife (many YouTube videos will show you how to do it). Tape that chip inside the filter compartment and you can use this awesome made in USA filter. The GE filters deteriorated and stopped dispensing water in less than two months, multiple times, in the past couple of year. I couldn't afford spending multiple hundreds of dollars in filters every year. Otherwise I would prefer to use the genuine filter.

Superb filter!
Last week the water filter replacement light went on, on my GE refrigerator. I went from store to store looking for replacement filters. I was unable to find anything. I decided it was time to scour the internet. I found this filter for $25. That's great considering comparable ones go for up to 50. I wen ahead and made the order. The item showed up on my doorstep in the typical brown Amazon box within forty eight hours, which is fantastic. I opened it up and immediately found it was the same quality as the one GE makes. I went ahead and unwrapped it, and swapped it for the one inside the refrigerator. Now the replace filter light is off, and once again i have super pure water. The only difference between this filter and the retail filter is what you pay for in the name brand. I agree--sometimes you get what you pay for, but this is an exception. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing to replace a refrigerator water filter, but cannot bring themselves to spend $50 when then can only spend $25.

3rd filter purchase, and works as well as the rest we have received.
Prices seem to keep dropping. Filter arrived quickly. Installation was simply push-in for our GE side by side fridge with bottom freezer drawer. Some initial leaking because I pulled it out and pushed it in again to make sure I had it inserted correctly. No leaking at all now. If you do get leakage, someone recommended trying newer o-rings from the hardware store. I would try new rings first before returning the filter. You have to siphon at least a gallon of water to get rid of filter particles and air in the line but then water runs clear. Two gallons recommended but one gallon worked for me. Normally, our tap water tastes fine to me, and with this filter I didn't notice much difference in taste. We used the fridge water without a filter while waiting for the first one to arrive and really, it is the same as the tap water. So, if filtered water helps you sleep at night, I would go for this deal before spending twice as much for the alternative.

it's a poor facsimile. The filter fits correctly
These are supposed to be an equivalent to the GE RPWF water filter. Unfortunately, it's a poor facsimile. The filter fits correctly, but the usage of the filter is where the differences become apparent. It really comes down to the flow of the water from the dispenser in the refrigerator after this is installed; its so restricted that it looks like the filter is plugged relative to the OE GE one. Sure, you save some money but the resulting filter just isn't worth it.
