Strange Place for Snow

But is this jazz? Who cares, it's too good for labels ...
What more can you say about the all too brief lifespan of the Esbjorn Svensson Trio and the relatively small canon of music that they made that hasn't already been said? From the heart-racing urgency of the wonderful "Behind The Yashmak" and the frantic "Spunky Scrawl", by way of the JS Bach influenced in "When God Created The Coffeebreak", to the heart-wrenching beauty of "Years of Yearning", "Strange Place for Snow" varies in tone and tempo without deviating from the magic formula of piano, double bass, and percussion as the trio, augmented by synthesisers and studio trickery, continued to develop their unique contemporary music and explore a soundscape lying somewhere between the existentialism of Scandi-jazz and the empty nihilism of Radiohead. But is this jazz? Who cares, it's too good for labels.PS If you like EST and haven't already heard GoGo Penguin then have a listen you may like them too.

Never disappointed by EST
I have come late to EST. I am drawn initially to certain pieces more than others and this album is very much light and dark. Tracks such as Years of Yearning, The Message, the first half of Car Crash. As I keep listening I continue to develop a whole new relationship with the tracks I at first put to one side. I do, however, prefer the live in Brazil version of Serenade for the Renegade. The definition of quality composition is never being disappointed by listening over and over. The Esbjorn Svensson Trio is or was one of a rare group of musicians in this category. What a shame for Mr Svensson's family, friends, colleagues and for his listening public, when he was so alive and had so much more to offer, his time ran out.

Great jazz album of best last decade piano player
Item as described. Very fast shipping. All in all great seller.About EST: best piano jazz of last two decades. This record exhibit outstanding piano lines, as well as tipical EST crossover - contemporary jazz concepts. Highly recommended for jazz lovers who like music of Keith Jarrett and contemporary jazz artists.
