Melissa & Doug Bread and Butter Toaster Set (9 pcs) - Wooden Play Food and Kitchen Accessories

These toys are incredibly well detailed, and provide a respectful simulation of the "grown up" equivalent that is convincing enough for imaginary and practical play. They are made of very safe materials, and have a wonderful reputation for quality. I think these are very expensive toys, and perhaps not worth the significant upcharge. But they do last, and are as realistic as they should be.

What can I say? Melissa and Doug nailed it again. This item is cute yet simple for lots of fun play. Since we have moved from the terrible two to the even worse 3s, she is certainly not gentle on toys, yet this along with other M&D hold up so well (no paint chips, no wood splintering, no small pieces falling off). The item has taken a beating and I could still pass it to a friend and not feel bad about the condition of the toy. Comes with everything you need to make toast (all wood). One of my favorite things about M&D products is the cute laminated card the sets come with. I use to not think much of them, but now that my young lady is older, she loves these card to take our order. It's a nice touch and adds to the excitement. I got this at a very fair price (around $13) but I probably wouldn't go above $15 for it. I was surprised how much she enjoyed this item but it's neat. I would suggest grabbing the coffee maker too (they match). No sounds and lights but still some of her go to toys. Also good price and I feel like it completes the set. This came in nice packaging if you are buying as a gift.

We have purchased a playhouse for our younger grandchildren to play in when visiting. I've had great fun furnishing it. I want it to be something special that they recall from their childhood in years to come. I've tried to avoid plastic, as much as possible, and as a retired teacher, I've held toys to the standards I had for my classroom. The Melissa and Doug wooden food sets are there. I had to find a play kitchen on Etsy, not finding what I wanted in the commercially made ones. The table is handmade, as well. This little toaster is worthy of the playhouse. I expect it to last the ten years, or so, before the youngest outgrows wanting to play in the playhouse. When everyone outgrows the playhouse it will become a garden shed (that happens to have a porch and small size Dutch door in front and an adult size door in the back.) The toaster may well live on to be played with by great grandchildren. I think kids are surrounded by too much plastic. I think we should give them natural materials to play with when we can. I have the coffee maker coming, and will likely buy the blender, and all the rest of the Melissa and Doug kitchen line. They are not really pricey for wooden toys and they have the modern gadget factor that kids like, only in wood. I would have loved this little toaster as a child. I think the grandchildren will love it too.

Sturdy, good-quality wooden toaster set. The butter dish with "cuttable" butter and the manual lever to pop the bread up are so much fun! The bread slices are much thinner than other Melissa & Doug wooden bread we have. That's okay though, as our 2-year-old has tried to "toast" a variety of other play foods, but the slots are so thin that nothing else but the bread fits in the slots, which is a good thing since nothing gets stuck in it! This set looks very cute in his little play kitchen. We also bought the red and white wooden teapot from Le Toy Van and this matches perfectly!

One of the best kid's toaster we have been able to add on to his kitchen throughout the year and that plastic one went to donations the next morning. I love Melissa & Doug toy's but their "kitchenware and food" are so real looking. I'm not sure how many time's someone in the family picks up a pickle from the floor and very shortly you hear Jackson put away your kitchen accessories! He loves them as well. His daddy is a Chef so he has always been drawn to the kitchen since 2 asking for random kitchen toy's. His kitchen is much better than our families. I wish we had started buying just Melissa & Doug kitchen toy's since we started. Seems like the kitchen toy's are made poorly lately, that is what I'm usually throwing away when I get a chance! So he is 5 now and for last year's XMas he asked for a brand kitchen and all new accessories and food for his grown up kitchen...that did not happen but he sure did get a lot of fancy accessories. We will see about the kitchen next year! If you are a new parent and your kid is a natural born Chef I would just start out with Melissa & Doug everything. They are impossible to break and our huge pile up of kitchen accessories and food would have been a lot more organized and even better we would have saved hundreds!

Always love the quality of the wood Melissa & Doug toys. The toaster and Velcro butter with toast is cute. I was disappointed that the toast doesn’t actually go fully or even almost fully into the toaster. Too bad this wasn’t referenced in the product description. Takes away from the realism of the “appliance”. Noting the high overall rating for the product, I didn’t read enough individual reviews to catch this.

My 3 year old loves this toy! In general we are loving all the Melissa and Douglas - pretend play kitchen toys we’ve recently tried out. They really encourage learning and using gross motor skills as described. Our favorite part is that the products have this little velcro on them so you can use the pretend knife and cut the butter! It’s much sturdier then the plastic pretend play kitchen food and you can do more with it and it just feels more real for them! I’ve definitely noticed a difference with how much more he interacts with the toaster and all the little pieces then with the typical pretend play plastic kitchen items.

Bought this for my three year old grandson after he had played with one at a Tiger who came to tea exhibition. He is now six and still plays with it with his two year old sister. They have great fun with it and it is still in really good condition. It's great for imaginative play.
