absurd lack of quality control
I have 8 lamps from House of Troy dating back 13 years, over $3k invested over time. Last week I bought my fourth of a floor lamp model and this model, my third desk/piano lamp. Both surprised me with an absurd lack of quality control. A corner of the base has a massive gouge exposing the unpainted core. Another segment has paint so thin at the edge that the dull silver underneath the bronze paint shows. And the place where the "turret" mounts to the base has circular scratches. How on Earth did someone let this through quality control? The shades of my other two desk/piano lamps are perfectly flat and square on the lower opening edges, but this one has a rear corner tapering downward and center tapering upward. Like it was either created crooked or mishandled and bent. The packaging was flawless, however -- no sign of damage in transit.Unacceptable in a lamp costing over $450. House of Troy has gone downhill since they moved production from Vermont to China. Now I'm debating whether to try exchanging versus walking away from the brand entirely. The problem is wanting it to match the two desk/piano lamps I already have, which are apparently relics of when they practiced quality control. The nonfunctional floor lamp I ordered at the same time is meant to match three others. I really don't want to give up with giving them a chance to replace them, but what are the odds of two fluke QC errors in two products at the same time? I suppose I'll start with an exchange and update this review with my conclusion.

Beautiful and practical
I ordered this lamp hoping the color in the picture was true to form. It was. My piano is made of dark rosewood and this lamp blends in with it like it was made for it. The lamp is tall enough to be able to fit above the sheet music or books and still be able to adjust so that the light doesn't hit my eyes when I'm playing. It is a gorgoeus lamp and practical. The lamp's width allows it to have two lightbulbs that give out enough light to read my music without being harsh. Also the added width allows for the light to shine on both pages of a book, a real plus. I put in two 25 watt ornamental bulbs and they are the perfect amount of light. Love the lamp. It is a lovely lamp, but it's appearance is only surpassed by its functionality. A good buy.

Defective lamp
The lamp I received is probably a product previously returned by another customer. It's defective. One of the lamp sockets does not work. The inside of the defective socket appears to have burnt-out mark, such as wire burnt-out. I tried anyway, using light bulbs that were proven working on the defective socket, and of course, did not light up. The merchant should have taken the time to examine their product before shipping to an unsuspecting cumstmer! I am returning this good-for-nothing thing.

Beautiful lamp but general quality issues
I purchased this item 2 years ago. And exactly two years later, the internal mechanism of the hinge connecting the lamp and the base broke. There isn't any heavy use on it. Just turn it on/off everyday. This is the second lamp I had received from Amazon because the first one was damaged upon arrival. When you call the manufacturer (American Lighting Brands now and not House of Troy), they just tell you to contact Amazon. And because it's beyond the 30 day return period, my return takes a 20% deduction of the price I paid for restocking fee to Amazon. The lamp is heavy and feels sturdy and it really is a beautiful lamp but there does seem to be a quality issue. Amazon is great to work with on the customer support of this issue but the manufacturer offers no customer support whatsoever so buyers beware!

Nice lamp.
This lamp exceeded my expectations. It sits on my console piano and provides a great deal of light on my music. It is attractive and very stable. I like that it doesn't require a separate power supply like some of the LED lights. I'd buy it again.

The lamp was damaged.
This piano lamp looked great in the pictures. The box was old to begin with, and had a hole in it. The shade had two dents and scratches. The base of the lamp was crooked. I was really looking forward to this lamp!I tried to put a light in it and could not get it out once I decided to return the product. The description said it was like new.In summery: poorly packed and damaged.

Great style
Love the style. My only regret is that the on/off button is directly behind the music stand on my piano spinet piano and I have to put down the stand to access the button.
