I began writing 3 years ago. I wish I had found your book then, but now is better than never. Very useful, with fast reads.

Lots of good prompts and ways to get past writer's block.

So far, I am uncertain what clean and clear benefit I've gained from reading this through. On the other hand, I found it encouraging to keep at what I've been attempting to accomplish for several years now.

As a writer the now write books are a great addition to my library. On time and packaged nicely

This books has been an awesome teaching tool for my homeschoolers. Its full of different techniques that get them writing all types of short stories.

This makes a handy reference book for those that write in this genre. Recommended for writers of any genre for the basic info in it.

you know what i hate about the world of lit, it's the elitism and the aversion to the new and different that engulfs it. case in point - this book. anyone who really stops to think about this book and the message it conveys ought to recoil. horror indeed. in a nutshell - conform. that's what this (and many other books of its ilk) is about. conform. be like so and so. your voice - nobody wants to hear it. too original. it just doesn't capture their interest. the publishing industry feeds off of the same recycled plotlines year after year as if people had no other recourse besides print.

I have a couple of the Now Write Series and they are my go to books when I am stuck for ideas. The Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror exercises cover a broad range of topics including understanding the genre, ideas and inspiration, high stakes, building worlds, etc. There's a wealth of information and ideas presented for you to work with - the only hitch is that if you are looking for a beginner book, this might not be the right one for you. Instead, you might want to take a look at Writing Fantasy & Science Fiction: How to Create Out-of-This-World Novels and Short Stories.

I don't think the level of editing in this book is nearly as rigorous as that of "Now Write! Fiction" where I found almost every contribution useful. That said, there are enough very helpful contributions and exercises to definitely make it work the price and the time.

A great collection of ideas, points-of-view, writing techniques and thought-provoking exercises to get you writing.
