The Best of COI Five Decades of Public Information Films (2-Disc Blu-ray) [2020]

This blu-ray British Film Institute collection of Central Office of Information films made from the 1940s to the 1980s offers a fascinating glimpse into British life over this period. There is an informative booklet inlcuded within the well-presented package. Amongst the highlights is the nostalgic glimpse of Edinburgh life in the 1940s entitled Waverley Steps, but there are many other COI films that both bring back memories for those of us who span the whole period, and also serve to jolt our senses as to the harsher qualities of post-war life. One is Apaches, apparently made on a tight budget, but demonstrating the hidden dangers of farming to youngsters in a graphic fashion. Overall, excellent value for money.
