I Left the House Today!: Comics by Cassandra Calin Paperback – Illustrated, 9 July 2020

This was a really fun quick read that I really resonated with. I've been following the author on social media so I've seen a lot of their stuff, but this was still really fun with new content. I can't wait to read more by the author

This arrived yesterday. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I had a hunch it was going to please me. And my hunch was right! This is quite a small book. But's it's totally amazing. 43 pages of humorous, well observed takes on modern life and all its mundanity and blandness - and all infinitely relatable. It's called I left the house today and somehow speaks well to our new world of lockdown and not leaving the house very often. I love the artist's style and sense of humour. The cartoons are simple but well observed and the expressiveness of the characters is really fresh. I also find it very inspiring. It's made me want to sit down and drawn my own versions. Get it people - you won't regret it. It's the kind of book I'll be buying more of (providing stocks last?) for presents and gifts in future!

This is a relatable and well illustrated little biographical comic book collection.Some of the “stories” are not as relatable to me as I am a 30 something woman and I think this is more aimed at 20somethings. However, the fashion/beauty bits made me giggle. Who hasn’t had a hair, fashion or beauty disaster? She also covers boxed set binges, uncertainty about what we are doing with our lives, and other simple aspects of life as a young(ish) woman in today’s society.Her illustrations are all black and white, and simple yet eye catching. I can’t believe how well she illustrates hair!!!The title didn’t feel quite right for the collection as it wasn’t as heavily focused on being an introvert, more just social awkwardness/faux pas incidents. I’d have been more inclined to call it something like “should I have left the house today?!”.I have now started following the author on Instagram @cassandracalin as I enjoy her style.Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for access to this fun and funny collection.

I bought this book for my grandaughter. She really loves it. Just wish there were more like this.
