Easy to set up once I didn’t read the complicated directions
I left this in the box for 6 months because I couldn’t understand the instructions and had no inclination to try to figure them out. Then my garage door opener stopped working and I was forced to set it up. I remember one of the neighbors once show me how to reset the code when the garage door wasn’t working correctly so I thought I would give it a try. There is a small hole on the actual opener mounted on the wall. It is really small just large enough to fit a small unbent paper clip into. I held the garage door opener close to the wall mount, pushed in the paper clip while holding the open button. Has worked like a charm. I am not sure you do it that way but it worked for me and took all but 10 seconds to do. The previous owner had left me the two garage openers he had and they were on their last legs. I ordered this one and will reorder another when I need to replace the other beat up one he left when I bought the house. My garage door opener is an MVP so I can’t say how it work with another brand.

Worked great
I purchased this after my last remote died. I was worried about programming this after reading some reviews but I found a video on youtube that explained it perfectly. I think this works only for MVP units and is only for programing a new remote to an exsisting garage setup. All you do is go up to the button pad on the garage wall where you open and close the door. Find the program button in the center of the pad (its the really tiny recessed button that you have to press with a paper clip). Using the paper clip push the button once. You will hear the overhead unit click with the light turning on and the red light on the back turning on also. You then press the center button on your new remote control which will turn off all those lights and make a click sound again. Thats it just hit the same button on the new remote again to test it and the door should open and close no problem.

Easy set-up
I was concerned after reading the reviews that it would be difficult to set up the remote with my garage door opener, but it was extremely EASY!!!! The prior owner of our house didn't leave a remote, so we bought this one. I think other reviewers have mentioned this, but IGNORE THE DIRECTIONS FOR PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE!!! The remote already comes pre-programmed, so you don't have to punch in 9 random "numbers" or push the buttons 9 times. Not sure how this works if you already have mutliple remotes, but if this will be your only one, it's simple. Just go to the keypad and push in the Program button (I used a small nail) and then push one of the buttons on the remote (I pushed the "+" button). I wasn't sure it worked so I pushed in the Program button for 5 seconds to reset it, and then pushed in the Program button again, and then pushed the "+" button on the remote again. I waited a few seconds, then tried the "+" button on the remote and the garage door opened. SIMPLE! Wish I'd bought this sooner!

Read This For Big Picture Overview
The written directions and online videos are terrible. However, by gleaning a few points from each, I was able to figure it out. There are three components. 1.) The "transmitter" which is the handheld unit being reviewed here. 2.) The "MVP Door Operator" which is the button on your wall to open and close the garage door. 3.) The "receiver" which is attached to the motor on your ceiling that opens and closes the garage door (the directions show a picture of the receiver, discuss the receiver, but really, it's inside the motor, you can't see it, you don't need to worry about it except for an indicator light going on and off).I moved into a new house, one transmitter worked, one did not. So I ordered an extra as a replacement. The directions go through great pains with the 9 number code. Forget that, do this. Go to item 2, the "MVP Door Operator." Put a paper clip in the hole for 6+ seconds. Item 3 the "receiver" i.e. garage door motor lights up, then goes off. This clears all previous codes. Then put your paper clip in for about a second, and the red light goes on on item 3 (the directions don't mention that the red light is on item 3). Now hold your new transmitter next to item 2 and hold the button down, the item 3 light goes off, this means you're item 1 transmitter is good to go. Test it by pushing button on item 1 to test.In my case, the transmitter I ordered was now programmed, but since I had cleared all codes, I had to input my original working transmitter. Easy enough. Put the paper clip in item 2 for a second, light comes on, put transmitter near item 2, hold button, good to go.What the hell, I took my non-working transmitter, did the same thing, now it worked. So now I have three working transmitters.Anyway, my intent here is to give a big picture overview of the process. The directions are great with details, but not at the big picture. The nine number code thing - if you want a unique code for your transmitter, like if your transmitter opens your neighbor's garage door, then give it a unique code. Otherwise, you don't need to go through this step., just roll with the factory settings.

Bought 2 for the same garage door... only 1 will work at a time.
Easy to program, but I cannot program both controls...only 1 will work.
