Dakine Surf and Sun Cap

I got this for SUP surfing, specifically to aid visibility in the bright sun. When the sun is out, being on a SUP can be rather blinding. What this does is effectively block direct sunlight in the eyes, leaving only the water reflection remaining. That's enough to improve eye comfort and this cap functions properly for that. I have read mentions that the clip is pretty flimsy and I would concur. I certainly would treat it gently and pay attention when clipping and unclipping to avoid breaking it. I think they could have put a burlier clip (mid way between this and a helmet clip) to avoid this issue. And that would be my recommendation to Dakine.The flip side of getting all that sun protection is, of course, comfort. The question I had was, is this going to be ok when I get thrown off the board and tossed and turned in a wave? Is it going to be safe, ie not cover up my eyes? Is it going to be secure? So far, the answer is: yes. It does not cover my eyes, nose or mouth if I fall in the water. And so far, it hasn't come off. Again, the main issue with buckle isn't the strength of the connection, it's the strength where it connects to the fabric. It's quite a thin piece of plastic.Still, I think, on the whole, this is worthy of five stars. I think the comfort and look of the smaller buckle is a feature for some, and I think it's sturdy enough to last a two to five years, if treated properly.

I needed sun protection on jet skis. This stayed on perfectly even at high speeds! I have a small head and was worried it wouldn’t adjust properly on me, but it did. The clip is flimsy tho but still I’m very pleased.

Liked the fit but on the SECOND surf session (in 2-3 footers) the strap completely falls apart. I should have made a better choice since a lot of reviews mentioned the strap issues. And here’s another disappointed customer. Dakine has some good products but this is definitely not one of them. Come on Dakine! This company should be able to offer a much better surf cap than what there are selling currently.Mike in Huntington Beach

This hat does what it is supposed to do, keeps the sun off my balding head and gives my eyes some protection. It's much more stylish than others I've seen and like I told another in the water "I don't mind the girls call me daddy but definitely not grandpa..."Like others mention, the buckle/clip is small and lightweight so can be a pain to unclip and I suspect it might not last long. They could do better.Another issue is the bill is too stiff. When duck-diving, water pushes under and it forces the hat to side back on my head. More flexibility in the bill would make it better.All in all I'm happy with it.

Nothing to dislike about this surfing hat.Stays on when duck diving. Protects you from the sun. Chin strap is strong and fits well.Hat even protects your ears from getting sunburnt.Doesn’t protect your neck, so lather on a lot of sunscreen lotion and wear a long sleeve rash guard. Perfect hat.

Cap fits well and is comfortable

This hat was perfect for my surf trip to puerto Escondido where it’s super hot. It protected my head from getting sunburned and also kept the sun from blinding me when looking out for more waves or at the shore.The bad reviews complained about the clip being extremely hard to take off but it is just a clip that you just press and it comes apart.The quality seems to be good as well. It stayed on when I ducked dived Under big waves and didn’t rip like some others complained about.The bill is short enough to still block the sun and not be a nuisance while out in the water.My only complaint is that I would get a headache after wearing it for a long time since I put it on too tight and it would cut off my circulation. I didn’t want to loosen it cause I was afraid it might come off.Well worth the money compared to some other more expensive surf hats I was looking at. I’ll buy another

A pesar de ser un gorro para surfistas, necesitaba algo de protección extra al salir de mis inmersiones y este gorro me resulta muy práctico porque se queda en mi cabeza todo el tiempo ya sea que vaya en el bote o bajo el agua
