Extremely difficult to sew
I am a sewer, and I have worked with elastic for 50 years. My sewing machine hates this elastic! I have never had a problem with any other elastic and don't understand why this one is so different. We are busy making masks for COVID, doll clothes for the grand kids, etc.

Don't buy this elastic
I bought this elastic for masks. It melts if an iron gets close to it. In the dryer it wrinkles. It won't stand up to frequent laundering and so is not suitable for masks or much else.

excellent service
The item came even earlier from the date it was estimated, fast service, good packaging and good quality. As a matter of fact I did place today another order with them. I am very happy with their products.

Defective elastic
I am very disappointed in the condition of the black 1/4 inch elastic I received today. It appears to be defective and of extremely poor quality. I am embarrassed to use it to make masks for my family and friends. This is not the product that was advertised! I would hope the seller is also embarrassed and will send me the elastic that was advertised.

elastic fray and tears
I bought this elastic to make masks for my granddaughter to wear to work. At first glance the elastic looks fine, it cuts normal. I spent a lot of time making the masks and when I was done, I gently pulled on the elastic and it frayed! I hope that my granddaughter is able to use the masks for at least a couple weeks before the elastic completely tears apart! It is the crappiest elastic I have ever seen. Don't waste your money on it. Very disappointed.

buyer be aware
I purchased 2 size hipgirl elastics from Amy's- the 1/8 inch was in a hank and was continuous and seems like good quality. I just opened the 1/4 inch (6mm) 20 yard hank. This size came in 3 precut pieces- two of the pieces were actually knotted together (one about a yard long, the other longer) so it will in fact leave me with waste. I wish I would have known it was in odd precut pieces so I could decide if I wanted it in precut odd lengths. The quality of this elastic seems good and the time window for return has passed so this review is to just alert future buyers to verify with seller that you will get what you want.

Would not recommend for machine washables
Used this to make earloops and behind the head straps for masks and it's disintegrating after a few washes!! I put my masks in a lingerie bag to wash + dry them to prevent tangling, for reference. The rubber stretchy part of the elastic has separated from the cloth part of it and has become crunchy like a 10 year old bathing suit band. Would not recommend for anything you wash in a machine.

Great-quality, sturdy braided elastic for masks or clothing▪Decent value for price▪Quick shipping
I bought this elastic for the purpose of making cloth face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as more permanent items of clothing I hope to make in the future. Some of the other negative reviews that I'd read left me concerned about buying this product, but I believe that the manufacturer is receiving (and selling) different lots of varying quality as the demand for elastic soars during the pandemic, which accounts for the wildly ranging levels in the quality of the item. In other words, if you're looking at a review of elastic bought in April or May of this year, that particular lot of elastic is long gone by now. This review is indicative of elastic ordered/shipped in early August 2020. I purchased it on 3 August 2020 and received it a week later on 10 August, but it was delayed by other items in my order on backorder, and probably would not have taken this long to ship by itself. It was noted as "In stock" when I ordered. The elastic is in one piece, in a plastic bag, with no knots, seams, curling, or fraying. It is not completely white, but is a very light gray, just as described in the listing. It's shown photographed here on a white tissue against an off-white/taupe background, next to the plastic bag it came in. Unless you MUST have white, the color difference will hardly be noticeable. I did not formally unroll and measure the entire length of the elastic, but the length of the piece shown in this photo (pictured next to the bag it came in) is about 12", folded in half again (so ~24") x 32 strands equals about 21.88 yards, meaning it should exceed the listed yardage of 20 yards. It is braided elastic, which I personally find to be of a much better quality than knitted; it's sturdier and doesn't feel "cheap." Braided elastic is by nature less stretchy than knitted, but I certainly wouldn't call this elastic "not stretchy at all," as some reviewers did. It may well be less stretchy than other elastics you might have used, so you will want to adjust your elastic lengths accordingly. A 5" length of elastic at rest easily stretched to past 11", so it has an elasticity factor of at least 2x its resting length (I tried to photograph this, but my camera wouldn't accommodate the width). Finally, the hank does have a faint but noticeable odor of vinegar and rubber, but unless you're walking around with the entire hank of elastic underneath your nose all day, I can't see how this would be a problem. All in all, this is a fairly high-quality 1/4" elastic, good for both face masks and for more durable items of clothing. Having had to buy a lesser-quality knitted elastic for $1 per yard (!!!!!) when I first ran out back in April, I'm thrilled at the good quality, reasonable price considering the current demand, and quick shipping time of this product. Yes, it's more expensive than we were used to before the pandemic, but who knows when or if we'll ever return to those days....I have not yet sewed anything with this elastic, nor have I tried to wash, cut, or iron it. If I run into any concerns upon doing so, I will update this review.
