The unit is supplied with AA 2000 mAH NiMh rechargeable batteries. You can replace the supplied batteries with higher capacity batteries as desired, 2400-2700 mAH rechargeable batteries are available. The AA+USB output charge rate is 500 mAH to your device, so a little slower than current wall chargers. You can always carry additional rechargeable batteries to have greater capability, and recharge a supply or AA batteries for other uses while out on the trail or wherever. If you need higher charge rates or capacity, their newer Lightsaver series may be something to consider. Hope this helps.

Q: How many watts is this optimally?

Per the box, Solar charging voltage = 3.6V, Solar charging current= 0.4A, so by my math, 3.6 x 0.4 = 1.44W. However you don't charge directly from the solar panel with the PowerFilm - rather the solar panel charges 2 rechargeable AA and you charge your USB device from the AA. Since the USB charging voltage is 5.0V, and the USB charging current is up to 1.0A, I get 5 x 1 = 5W max for the USB output

Q: Will this charge a kindle fire HD?

I don't have a Kindle Fire HD, but I have a Kindle Fire and I have no problems with charing it.

Q: Can you charge 14500 batteries with this?

No - this product does charge 14500 batteries. It charges AA rechargeable NiMH batteries (included).
