COVID-19: The Pandemic that Never Should Have Happened and How to Stop the Next One

I bought these books for each of my families. I liked that it was written by a European science reporter who writes for science journals. I wanted an accurate account of the pandemic's history.

It is rather complex to read, but it helps people understand this virus.

I was hoping to see someone that followed infectious diseases to look for the root cause and offer questions, ideas, resources. But no, Debora Mackenzie constantly promoted the elite political and philanthropic class throughout the whole book. Debora Mackenzie promotes her personal ideology in the book, as she writes about the importance for population control. I was hoping to read about how to create a healthy planet. What a huge disappointment. We are not doomed like this book wants you to believe. We can get back in balance, and first we need to stop messing with the Earth (in the name of "feed the world" "cure diseases" - all control tools invented by the elite class.) Debora, let the Earth heal and then we can all heal. We need a voice for all people and all life and not someone that promotes fear and the elite class. Please look at what is happening with our seeds. I believe you can help make this a better world and I hope you do- as we need to get to all the core issues that are causing these diseases.

I got the audiobook from my public library. The author is a investigative science journalist, travels world wide for conference and writes in scientific journals. She spends a lot of time talking about flu pandemics, flu strains, and flu immunity. The scary parts are the novel flu strains and how they can mutate/develop; where the world population’s immune system has never seen it. Could be very deadly if that were to happen. On the happy side we should all write to our representative to help fund research on a universal flu vaccine. Or have a vaccine platform available where a novel flu can be plugged in, so to speak.

This book, written quickly by an experienced journalist, is a triumph. It covers the biology and then the institutions around pandemics. It is both informative and thought-provoking. And it is exceedingly well written. Worthwhile for all.

There are so many parts missing from the original text.

Very readable. The topic is not dealt with light heartedly, but neither is the discussion without humour and the recognition of human foibles. Wholly recommend
