A Great Read from John Sinclair
This book presents a great opportunity to learn about Detroit, the MC5, jazz, blues, the life of the artist, and social activism through the writings of John Sinclair. Sinclair—poet, musician, activist, rock and roll manager, editor, teacher—takes us through his subjects with great care. It is clear in the way he details each musician or poet’s contribution to an event or a recording that he cares deeply for the people he writes about. A picture emerges of an author that has been consistently driven by his ideals in writings that span over 40 years. The book contains some very moving poems, tributes, and heartfelt moments from Sinclair’s life. For the student of jazz and blues, the book also provides extensive information on many artists that the reader can subsequently explore. An excellent read.

It's all here
This collection of essays, articles and poetry by John Sinclair is an articulate, vivid, first-hand documentation of counter-culture America. Sinclair, an iconic participant and proponent of free thought, free speech and the legalization of marijuana, is candid and prolific in his account of the experiences and events that influenced a generation to tune in, turn on and drop out.Among other subjects, Sinclair details the circumstances surrounding his arrest, 10-year conviction and 2-1/2 year incarceration as a political prisoner in the early 70s, as well as the efforts of supporters to overturn the conviction and change the law - an altruistic and eventually successful endeavor, that culminated with the Free John Sinclair Rally, and his release three days later.Sharply-drawn profiles of jazz and blues musicians, and many of Sinclair's poems are included.A remarkable and entertaining read from a lion who never ceased to roar.
