A mind-opening read
This book is for those of us who have only heard rumors of what Magdalene was to Jesus and want to know more. Starbird starts as a devoted Catholic and refutes her own beliefs by the end of the book. This book is about her search for the truth using her education, her insights and working through her own 'dark night of the soul' to come to a startling conclusion. Although this is an older publication her process is interesting and straight forward. A very enjoyable, well documented book.

Accurate account of men's negation and distortion of women's role and influence in the evolution of Catholicism
Although the book offers interesting and conclusive prove of the Church's ideas to place women in history at a second level, the story telling can be boring at times and surrounded by subjective ideas and personal conclusions of the writer as opposed to cientific evidence. Nevertheless, the book is an accurate account of men's attempt to dominate the theological world and the institution of the church, and actively and intentionally negate the important role of women in society and the evolution of Catholicism as a religion.
