Black Christmas (DVD) [2019]

A pretty good remake of a 1970’s movie!

A virtually bloodless retelling of the classic Christmas fright film. Beautifully made and great to look at as it does capture the atmosphere of the season very authentically. This telling of the movie centres around the disgusting attitude of a fraternity regarding women. Practically every guy in the movie is a right sleaze and it was fulfilling to see them get their just deserts. The young woman are real and sympathetic and I regarded them all with affection. The movie changes direction from an out and out slasher to a weird black magic finale in which our girls disrupt in an in your face crescendo. Don’t expect the creepiness of the original nor the gore of the first remake and take it for what it is. An entertaining little horror movie that for me didn’t disappoint.

Black goo, secret organisations and sexual politics on campus. Black Christmas 2019 combines the conspiracy theory mind-set of the X Files with the social issues of Special Victims Unit. The result is surprisingly entertaining, but a bit hit and miss. I like it much more than the 2006 remake.I've given it 3 stars because I don't think it is anything like as bad as its detractors insist it is, but it might be an acquired taste

Quite a poor film to be honest. Nothing new here and not really worth the watch. Very disappointing really.
