Where have you been all my life...?!?
WOW! Whomever invented this should be proud of themselves. I wish it had been me. :) This is a GREAT little gadget! 1. The sweeper arm on the bottom prevents chunks of food from getting stuck under the chopping blades. No more fishing out and re-chopping! Food items are evenly chopped. I'm totally chuffed over that bottom sweeper feature. 2. No electricity needed! It's small enough to be easily stored. 3. The pull action is so smooth and easy that my bum shoulder doesn't have any problems with it. 4. I have tiny hands, but even my hubby's big hands easily fit into the big pull ring. A young child, with supervision, would find it easy to help in the kitchen. 5. I can't believe how easy this is to use, and how evenly it chops various items. It's easy to clean, too: water and a tiny bit of dish soap; with a few pulls, it's clean. My stupidly expensive Cuisinart food processor is such a piece of crap (so poorly designed) that it's going right to the thrift store -- this week. I'm sticking with my Chef'n from now on. It'd be great to have a taller version with maybe 3 or 4 sets of blades, or a larger diameter one with longer blades, but I'm thrilled with this one. If a bigger one comes out...I'm buying it immediately! In fact, I'm buying two of them, or more. I got 2 of these, but am going to order 2 more for Christmas gifts. No, I wasn't paid to write this review, I wasn't asked to do so, and haven't a clue who benefits from it. I just know a good product when I meet one, as do most of us. I can't say enough about this little gem -- I hope it's sturdy enough to hang together well for a good while. It's a GREAT little product. UPDATE: 1/11/2016 I can't believe this much time has passed since my review in 2014, but this little food chopper is just as sharp as it was the day we opened it. I know I said that I hoped it would hang together for a good while: looks like it's doing just that. :D We still use it a LOT, fling it in the dishwasher, and it's ready to go. I love how it's compact enough I can store it in one of my bottom kitchen drawers and leave plenty of room above it. UPDATE: 12/12/2016 Nearly a year after my last update - and it's STILL super-sharp, tough as can be. It's beautifully made - I love it. UPDATE: 01/06/2018 Wow. It's STILL super-sharp, going into the 4th year of heavy home use (purchased 26th Nov., 2014). I'm seeing a lot of "wanna-be" copies of this pull chopper, but none seem to have the generously sized blades as this little work horse from Chef'n. Once again - kudos to the manufacturer! Ya done good. :)

Love this chopper
I had one of these for over 10 years! The string finally broke probably because I put mine in the dishwasher too many times but I got my money's worth. Went on Amazon and bought another one. This thing chops and minces nicely, easy to clean, easy to use and works as intended. I had originally bought another chopper before getting this one and it was horrible! If you like something, stick with it. This kitchen gadget will save you so much time and crying eyes . It is a good size and chop/minces a large onion with only a few pulls. The more you pull the finer the pieces. I now wash the chopper by hand (especially the top portion) and now this one comes with a sealable lid so if you chopped too much you save the rest for later right into container. If you need a handy chopper that's quick, easy to use, easy to clean than this your gadget. Highly recommend.

and so far it has been one of the best $30 I have ever spent
I bought this piece about 5 months ago, and so far it has been one of the best $30 I have ever spent. I should have gotten two, for the free shipping, and to keep the other for a gift! I chop a bowl of hard greens every day: cabbage, broccoli, celery, onions, and such. What used to be a daily routine, of a ~30-minute battle with a mandoline slicer, complete with all the fun picking up the cuttings from all over the counter, is now a battle no more, ... but more of a miracle! With the VeggiChop, it takes me longer to wash the veggies than to chop and transfer them all neatly in a bowl. Very little pre-cutting is required: I just crumble and tear by hand cabbage and lettuce leaves, celery sticks, broccoli heads -- pluck straight off the stem, and stuff them all in. Only rather hard stuff, like cabbage and broccoli cores, I knife to a bit smaller pieces first. Onions go in as halves, if they fit, or quarters for jumbo's -- just small enough to close the lid. Then lock the lid and pull, pull, pull! Yes, the pulling is a bit of a workout, I'll admit, and it may not be for everyone. It really chops only when spun quickly: if you pull slowly, it will just spin the stuff around. When you do pull, turn the head towards you, so that the cord comes straight at you from the hole, not at an angle, where it will rub against the orifice and will wear out. I usually overstuff it, so my first spin doesn't get to the stuff at the top. Then I just shake the whole thing closed, with both hands, and give it another run. This also helps to shake loose any hard pieces, like the cores, from the blades. Pop it open and ... it's a miracle! A finely chopped and perfectly mixed veggie salad, ready to be dumped -- with no spillover, then quickly spooned, and rinsed -- all down to the very last bit, with water, into a bowl to microwave and eat. Whole onions pretty much 'explode' into a fine gravel, and in ~no time -- spoon out as much as needed. I load and spin it two or three times, to top off a regular, 28-oz soup bowl with the chopped veggies. Again, it's the rinsing that takes all the prep time. With everything cut this uniformly and consistently small (but still nowhere near blended in a soup), I then save on chewing -- big time, especially for something like cabbage, and win big in digestion, believe it or not. It's a terrific kitchen tool overall, so long as you got the endurance for the pulling. If not, it might be a hassle, but you can always go with small loads: those are very easy to chop, and it's only that you'd have to reload it quite a few times, to make anything in size. I have started experimenting with it, in chopping other stuff in with my veggies: frozen fruits, frozen cooked meats, all get chopped right in beautifully. It's limit seems to be at harder veggies, like carrots, beets, turnips, rutabagas, potatoes: those I still have to grate, slice by hand. Even as it is, it has saved me countless hours -- of irritation at the kitchen counter, with a mandoline slicer, and better still -- really helped my digestion: no more under-chewing! While I usually just rinse it with tap, it does go through a dishwasher just fine, including the semi-sealed top. Everything in it has held up fine so far, through five months of heavy daily use. And no matter how soon it will, eventually, fail .. hate as I do to sound like some prepaid 'reviewer' -- I'm getting another one right away!

Excellent, works great, but.....
Works really good and caution when cleaning, VERY sharp. Works well, saves a lot of time. Now for the “but”. Cleaning the top will in several months the rope will start to look bad and kind of dark brown, when you pull it out all the way. Reason being when you clean it water gets in where he the rope and spring are stored. Spring starts to rust, which explains the the coloring of the rope. SOLUTION: Place a piece of cellophane over the bowl before you put the lid on. (Don’t tighten till it clicks, you won’t be able to get it off). Use it to chop whatever and remove the lid remove the cellophane, clean the bowl and cutter and your done. There may be a small piece of cellophane in the center of the lid, remove it. The spring gets wet from wet items you may be cutting up thereby causing it to rust thus the brown dark ugly you may see coming out of the top. I tossed my first one due to this problem. Got another one a year and a half ago and started using the cellophane from day one and it’s still great. Thus the 4 star review, Couldn’t give a 4 1/2 star.

Nice manual veggie processor.
This is a great tool for the kitchen and for outdoors (i.e. camping). It works as well as my Mini Cuisinart processor. Electric powered food processors will be quicker and tend to create more "uniform" chops but this little Chef'n VeggiChop is no joke either. I use it on regular basis to mince or chop onions, garlic and various peppers. The first 3-6 pulls on the cord will give you rough irregular sized chops. The more you pull on the cord, more uniform the chops will get. I find that after 12 or so quick pulls, your chopped veggies will look more uniform. If you want to mince the veggies, go for 25-30 quick pulls. The clean up is a breeze. Run the cap, blade and the container under faucet and they are ready for next use. This is the case with my Mini Cuisinart as well. So then why do I find myself using this tool more than the electric powered food processor? 1. It has a smaller footprint on the kitchen counter. 2. There is no set up time. You just drop the veggies and pull the cord (dice veggies to appropriate size first! same goes with electric) 3. You can take this outdoors or even for travel if needed. It's lighter and definitely less bulky than its electric counter part. The built quality seems good thus far. I pull on the cord pretty hard (in my experience this makes for better chopping and mincing) and at times yank it to the limit of the cords length and I can tell the unit is made to withstand such abuse. I would give it 5 stars but this is my first manual food processor and have no other units or experiences to compare it to, Maybe there is something better out there? For now, this serves my purpose and does it well! UPDATE: Upgrading from 4 stars to 5 stars. I used this processor for well over a year and still performing strong. My go to kitchen gadget for processing garlic, pepper, etc,. so easy to use!

Great for onions and potatoes!
I purchased this item in the Arugula color 7 months ago. I was using it today and just realized I have never written a review for it. I purchased this chopper mainly to cut onions. I absolutely hate, hate, hate chopping large onions! Not only is it time-consuming but I cry like a baby when chopping onions and I almost need onions regularly while cooking. So I was thrilled when I discovered this product! After 7 months, this chopper has been holding quite well for me, although today I experienced a slight anomaly in the string pull, it wouldn't pull all the way for 2 seconds but worked when I tried again. Pros: - Excellent chopper for hard vegetables such as onions and potatoes. If you see my two pictures with the before and after chopped onions, it took me literally 7 seconds to chop them into small pieces (I counted the seconds). I'm not an athletic person at all and I have average strong lady hands. When chopping onions manually, it would take me several minutes including the breaks to cry and wipe my eyes. - Because I can chop onions quickly with this chopper, I don't cry anymore - I have dishwashed every part of this chopper and it has never caused me issues. This is important for me as I also dislike manual cleaning. So I can just put all the part in the dishwasher and forget about it. - Storage: It's a small chopper that can easily be tucked away anywhere. Or you can choose to have it stand somewhere in the counter as It looks aesthetically pleasing. - Manual: This may or may not be a pro for you. However I have so many kitchen gadgets that require to be plugged in and I have limited plug-in points in my kitchen. Therefore it's a relief to have a product that does not require any electricity. Cons: - While I love this chopper, it is certainly not versatile. It will not properly chop small vegetables properly. For example, I have been unlucky with chopping garlic. When it comes to garlic, I have to use my garlic press. It also does not chop wet vegetables. I once pushed my luck with a tomato and the outcome was a mess. - The string requires some pulling which is fine for most ladies. However it might be an issue for senior people, people with arthritis or people with weaker grip etc. - For those of you who hate to add items in your dishwasher, this chopper becomes an additional item to dishwash after every use. Or for those of you who manually clean utensils, this chopper becomes an additional item to manually clean after use. You also have to be very careful to not cut your hands when cleaning the blades. When pulling the string for chopping, don't be afraid to pull the string about 7-10 inches away from the chopper. I have realized that the chopping is better when the string is pulled further away. However don't pull the string too fast either. I suspect that the string is not the most resistant quality and it can damage the string. Bottomline I am very pleased with this chopper as my two main requisites were satisfied (one that quickly chops onions and one that didn't require to be plugged in). I recommend this chopper but make sure you know that this chopper is not versatile and has its pros and cons. I hope my review was helpful.

Fast, Easy, and reliable!
Like everyone else who loves this, I keep it on the counter for fast chopping of onions, tomatoes, celery, left over cooked meats. I purchased this especially for making sandwich fillings for my lunches. Ham, chicken, pulled pork, tuna. Amazingly fast preparation! Chop everything and add a bit of mayo and you have a great sandwich. I was afraid that I wouldn't have the strength to pull the handle, but it is very smooth and easy, and fun too. Don't touch the rope after pulling it, it can get hot. To repeat what others have said, the blades are very sharp. I slowly and carefully rinse and wipe the blade in the sink. It is just too easy to clean this! Yes, it is for preparing small portions of food, that's the great thing about it. No need to drag out a huge food processor to chop some mushrooms, onions and cooked bacon to saute for your hamburger or steak. Of course you could use a knife, but it would take a lot longer. Tuck this in a corner of your counter and use it all day. Wonderful chopper at a very reasonable price!

Handy product, love its easy in chopping!
Reading the reviews, I knew it was a great product, and now I know why. It arrived promptly as expected in its own little box with instructions. It is super easy to easy. Make sure you lock it in place before you use it, cos the lid needs to fit snugly so you avoid it flying off. I love the hand-cranking motion, makes you feel like you are doing exercise, and the vegetable gets chopped finely, and I love that it stays inside, not messing up cutting boards, by using graters. I grate Cauliflower quite often, so I tried it for this, and it worked beautifully, I pulled it apart as florets, and put them in. While 5-6 pulls didn't coarsely grind it like it claims, within 7-8 pulls, it was a beautifully processed finely grated cauliflower, without the mess that usually accompanies it. We have been finding excuses to cut veges in that, and me and my husband keep vying for a chance to use it before the other gets to it. We even made yoghurt smoothie in that - added some frozen berries, yoghurt, and protein powder, and while it didnt mash it completely like a blender would, it made them really really small, which was interesting and tasty in its own way, cos its like eating and drinking the smoothie. Only peeves : Because the blades are quite sharp, I am scared to wash it and leave it outside to dry on the dish rack in case my husband or I can reach to grab a glass, and scratch ourselves with the blade, it has happened yet cos as soon as I wash it, I wipe it with tissue, and put the blade back inside for safety. Something to consider if you have kids in the house, it is a raw edged blade, and very sharp. While washing I scratched myself with the slightest brush against it. It says 5-6 pulls to chop coarsely, but with that many pulls, depending on the vegetable you are cutting, it cuts unevenly (I tried large chunks of carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli), and results in shapeless chunks, but that cannot be helped, and if you want coarse chop in a specific shape, you should probably use a knife. Overall, very pleased with the product, Just adds one more tool to our kitchen tools of mandolin slicer, grater, and chopping board, but I see my family using this a lot more often than some of the other equipment. Update : (May 29, 2012) Its been couple weeks since I purchased this, and I have been using it very often. Just yesterday I noticed the first negative about the product. I wanted to finely chop up some carrots for some salad, and just broke long carrots into 3 pieces (1" dia). The chopper couldn't get through the flesh. It cut thru the carrot piece, and the piece got stuck in the blade. So I got all the pieces out, and cut them into quarters, and then it went smoothly. And the other negative being that if you are holding down the top with your other hand for grip, and pulling with the other one, steer clear from the exit of the wire, cos it sliced me slightly with the heat it generated. Not really bad, but a singing or whatever they call it. I wasn't too careful I guess. It doesn't hurt today. If I pull downwards instead of at hip level (If your hand hurts and you are taking a different stand), then black marks appear on the lid. While its aesthetic value is hurt, it still performs great. I will post a picture of the black marks. I think if you did it at the hip level always, it wont happen. Update : (Mar 2013) It fell down from a 2 feet height onto tile floor and got a crack on its side. We were careless in handling it. But in spite of the crack, it still functions, so thats cool. However, when it fell down, the inner white portion separated from the top handle, and there was a whole lot of gunk in there like wet fungi that we washed. It was disgusting, and once we fitted it back together, we werent able to open it anymore. That is a design flaw. To get it open, we have to hit it hard against the ground! Wish we had not seen the insides! But still functions, we use it lesser, and I am buying my second one, and another one to gift couples who enjoy cooking like us.

Super bra men klen konstruktion
Fungerar mindre än ettt år sedan är den trasig. Går sönder inuti mekanismen. 3 st har jag köpt nu. Sista höll ca 2 veckor innan den började att krångla. Mekanismen är för klen och bandet går i sönder efter ett tag. Aldrig ens diskad i maskin.

Use as a daily tool or back-up option when the "Y2K bug" happens again...yikes!
This hand-powered Veggichop is simple and compact, basically a mid-sized soup-bowl with a lid and blades! This hand-powered food processor (yeah, no electricity required folks) makes delicious dressings and easy Vegetarian/Vegan meals! Although, I have just been using it for a short time, I use it almost daily! I can appreciate the ease of use to get it ready, no messy long wires and strange plugs like a full-sized food processor :D. No need to haul and lug around that clunky, but efficient, electric food processor. This is the "guilt-free and grid-free" option to making your favorite fresh homemade salsas, pesto's and 'chunky' but funky hummus. However, the hummus does not seem to get down to a 'fine grain' like it's 'electric counter-part' produces, no pun intended (get it 'kitchen counter-part' lol). The dishes are tasty nonetheless, maybe try different fresh ingredients to get other results?! You can easily use this Chopper for fresh tomato pasta sauces, salsas or simple dressings, like my world famous 'Avocado-Coco" dressing! Take a 'Cauliflower head' and make some instant "Cauliflower-rice' for quick low-carb rice substitute. I mean why eat regular long grain Basmati rice, when you can have fresh Cauliflower rice at a minutes notice? Also perfect for mukbang.

FANTASTIC
I make my own coleslaw and thanks to the reviews I decided to buy a VeggiChop. I have not regretted it. I like that you can chop as large or as small as you like. It chops carrots, cabbage, peppers, lettuce, onions (no more tears) cucumber, beetroot and even tomatoes - these are the vegetables I have chopped so far. I am really looking forward to trying out other vegetables. The unit is not large and can easily sit on my worktop out of the way. Its very easy to use and wash. It works for me because I have a weak wrist and wanted something that wasn`t complicated to use. This is perfect. One of the best items I have bought - Thanks to the reviewers who have used this unit. I would definitely recommend it. The unit is a bit expensive for the size but I think its well worth the money and you get what you pay for.
