Daddies: A Book for Dads and Kids (Little Golden Book)

A classic reclaimed!
This classic Little Golden Book was my first "favorite book" as a little girl of four years who adored her daddy. Knowing full well that copy didn't survive the 60 plus years that have passed, I was elated to find it still in print. I found I still knew many pages by heart! My goal is to read it unendingly to a grandson who adores his daddy. Though the pictures are dated, and some of the occupations don't exist anymore, the love and respect a hard-working family man deserves is still well communicated--and the love of a child for it's father is still lovingly affirmed. I'm delighted with my purchase!

This book brings back so many sweet memories!
When my son was a toddler, I read to him every night. This book was one of the stories in a large book of children's stories. My son loved Daddies so much, he wanted me to read it over and over and over again until he had it memorized and he would "read" it himself. Now my son will be 46 in March and I bought it as a surprise for his birthday. I think he will enjoy it and it will make him laugh. It is a great book. Now one of my daughters wants me to buy a copy for one of my great-grandsons!!!

Great illustrations. Great story.
My son and daughter (who are 2 and 4 years old) love this book. They seem to gravitate to all the Little Golden Books we have. It's one that I don't mind reading over and over again. The pictures have an old fashioned look to them, but I like them, especially the one at the end showing them all eating dinner together. As others have noted, there aren't really any women in the book, but it is about Daddies, and applies well to our family situation. The main point is that daddy loves them even though he is away at work all day, so it might not be the best choice for stay-at-home Dads. Made a great Father's Day present for us.

Golden Books like these aren't making a political statement
My whole family loves this book! The short, rhyming text and bright pictures really appeal to my 11-month-old. She wants to read it over and over, and it makes sense to her since my husband leaves for work every morning. Yes, it was written in the 1950s and it's exclusively about working daddies, but there are other books about mommies if that's what you're looking for. Golden Books like these aren't making a political statement; they are explaining the jobs that people do in a straightforward way that makes sense to toddlers. Appreciate it for the simplicity and vintage charm!

good lesson
I really like this vintage book. Used it in conversation with my son the other day when he was asking why the driveway resurfacing men working on our neighbors home had to go home to their families. He remembered in it that Daddy's do all kinds of jobs and then return home to their children. Helps with the "why can't I go with you?" busy working Dad's get. Really think it's a sweet story.

In memory of a dear friend
My girlfriend passed away this past January. In looking through some photo's of when she was young, I found a picture of her reading this book back in the mid '50's. Her mother told me that they had looked for this book years before because it was her favorite book. They were not successful. On a whim, I came to Amazon and there it was. I ordered it and presented it to her mother as a special keepsake. She was extremely moved and appreciative. This really was special for her and I am exceedingly happy to have found it here.

When I was a little boy
This was one of my favourite books and to find it again was brilliant. It's just as good if a little old fashioned but something I will always remember.

Perfect for the baby missing their Daddy during the day.
Golden Books are nostalgic for me. This book made me laugh because I read it to my kids and their eyes were so wide and focused on the pictures and they seemed to hold onto every word. I tell them where Daddy is each day 'working' and imagine what they think that means. I mean I do explain it and they have seen, but it's a nice little reminder for them. I love at the end how it talks about Daddies being at work all day, but then he rushes to get home to the kids as if he would rather be with them all day, Really it is a great book for the little ones and their pondering minds.

A sweet look at what daddies do all day...
This book is sweet and timeless. With rhyming text and attractive, colourful pictures, it shows all the sorts of jobs daddies do during the day, before rushing home to be with their families.Although today, many mommies also spend the day outside of the home, the fact remains that most daddies do work hard to provide for their children, and this book celebrates that, and teaches children to appreciate their father's hard work, and skills. After all though, the best thing about this book is that my 2 year old loves it and asks me to read it to her over and over again.

Wonderful
Though this book was written long back when daddies mostly used to go to work and that now mommies equally go out and work, this book still is very lovely to introduce the kids to what their parents do when they go to work and no matter where they go and what they do, they do it for them. My daughter loves it. Perfect to introduce different occupations and that all work is equal and important.

A good buy
Nice book to introduce different professions to children. It makes them understand what their Daddies do at work and that whatever they do it is for them. Also, it conveys the message that no job is big or small, everything is important.
