A Little Bit Like Love

On a business trip for his dad's company he overhears a conversation in a diner between two men that has Jackson's heart in his throat. Lucas Sullivan, the one that got away, can be found at a night club, that evening. As a combination of terror and hope fills him he contemplates seeing the love he left behind again. For eight years he has been squashing his lingering feelings him. Right there, in this diner in a place so close to where he last saw Lucas, they all come rushing back to the surface.Argos is Lucas' hunting ground. He is on the prowl to get a faceless body underneath him. It's a temporary fix for the emptiness, the deep seated loneliness that has taken root in his heart and mind. Every time a different body. No repeats. No exceptions. When he catches a glimpse of a familiar face, a face he hasn't seen in a long time yet is still etched vividly in his mind, he needs to know if it's really Jackson. The man who broke his heart so thoroughly.Jackson wants nothing more than apologize for the way he left him all those years ago but Lucas doesn't give him the time of day until a tropical storm forces them together for a night. Lucas isn't just holding a grudge, around the wall built around his heart there is also a barbed wire fence and he lashes out at Jackson. Things come to light, however, things that will change everything they thought happened eight years ago when Jackson left school just before graduation.Jackson is everybody's darling. He is friendly, kind and sweet, comes from old money and has stunning good looks and boyish charm.Lucas' character is the polar opposite, except in the looks department. He is the local sex god and man-ho and he makes good use of his reputation. Guys flock him and he can choose from an array of tourists that visit South Haven. Having Jackson back in his life means having to face and work through the past and that's not what he wants. Lucas fights Jackson with tooth and nails and settles firmly in jerk territory. He doesn't realize that he hurts himself the most when he lashes out at Jackson. He only knows that he can't get hurt again like he did eight years ago. Him being a jerk towards Jackson doesn't make him sound very likable but despite it all I still did. Lucas' loneliness and hurt is coming off the pages so vividly that you just can't help and feel for him. And when he starts to open up you see the sweet, funny, mischievous guy from Jackson's memory coming back.If Jackson was anything less but as patient and understanding as he was, Lucas train wreck of a life would end like that - lonely and bitter. Jackson is a good man, the better man really, and the way Lucas treated him sometimes would have chased every other guy away but he can see right through Lucas' facade. It couldn't have been anyone else saving this abrasive, acrimonious man. Jackson was incredibly lovable and endearing and everything Lucas needed to let go of his fear. This story had everything that ticks my boxes, angst, lighthearted humor, a gripping plot and fascinating characters. Anxiety tightened my chest not just once and when Lucas fired off his barbs my eyes stung with tears a couple times. He could be such a jerk..The set of secondary characters is amazing and while I'm looking forward to both Shaw's and Bash's stories, the scales tipped slightly in Bash's favor towards the end. He is such a scintillating, colorful character! Having said that though, I LOVED Shaw. This is the first MM romance Brooke Blaine wrote alone and didn't co-author. I am tremendously impressed how riveting, hot and intense this story was. Ms. Blaine wanted to give her readers her very best and let me tell you, it is one of the best MM books I've read this year. Whenever I wasn't studying my eyes were glued to my Kindle. If you read MM do yourself a favor and pick this up. Now the waiting for Shaw's story begins.A Little Bit Like Love is the first installment of the South Haven series.

Expectations met. And surpassed. A MUST READ.
'It was stupid and made me foolish to let myself get carried away yet again, but with every minute I spent with him, I craved more. Just another minute, another touch, another kiss, building up to the inevitable—another heartbreak.'I didn’t love A Little Bit Like Love just a little. No, I loved it a whole lot. From the stunning cover to the last word, this book wowed and wooed me.You guys. I don’t even know where to begin. I adore Brooke Blaine and, based on her previous books, it’s safe to say I had some pretty high expectations going into this one.Expectations met. And surpassed.Easily.I was absolutely charmed by this story. I love, love, LOVE second chance romance, and A Little Bit Like Love was moving, heartbreaking and hopeful—which just so happen to be the exact reasons I love this trope so. And oh, my heart. As Lucas and Jackson pieced themselves, their hearts and each other back together, I held my breath and just… relished it.I relished the way fate intervened. The moments of memory. The friends—Bash and Shaw—who I need to know more about. The lip-bitingly sexiness. The gentle way this book was paced. And how, even at its angstiest, this book was one that made me happy.Everything about Lucas and Jackson—their love, their pain, their banter—worked for me. From the way they clashed and raged to the way they fought and loved and opened up, and all that was in-between, A Little But Like Love was a lot like perfect. And I am perfectly happy to say this is a MUST READ.'There were a million questions I wanted to ask him, a million sorrys I wanted to say, but now that he was standing there in front of me, I couldn’t seem to utter a thing.'~ FIVE STARS ~

The story I wanted for them
I just had to have Jackson and Lucas’s story after reading a crossover series written with Ella Frank, and it did not disappoint one bit. They meet as seniors in high school. After one fateful night, where their relationship became so much more, they are separated for 8 years. Jackson has become the model son, following every step his father laid out for him. Lucas has become the ultimate playboy, never letting anyone get close to him. Jackson returns to South Haven and decides to finally take his life into his own hands. He seeks Lucas out and everything is not what it seems.I loved the dynamic between these two men and this second chance love story will pull all your emotions out. They discover lies from their past, the lengths someone takes to keep them apart, and eventually, they discover together who they want to be now that the truth is out. Trust is something that is hard for each of them, but their love story is such a sweet coming together. Just what I wanted for them.

What a tangled web his father weave
Talk about miscommunication and lost love. Jackson, and Luke, met at an all Boys Academy HS. They fell market in love with one another. And was each other's first love until Jackson's father found out and took him out of school, says before graduation. Right years went by without Jackson, not knowing that Luke came looking for him. And Luke getting a Dear John letter from Jackson. But it was written by Jackson's father without Jackson's knowledge. Like was heart broken for 8 years, as was Jackson. He went back to Savannah Georgia to do business, the same area where he went to school and Luke lives. Finally they meet and all the hurt came to the surface until they figured out that all that suffering was all because of Jackson's father. Needless to say the young lovers reunite and their love was just as strong as it was 8 years before. I love the way Jackson came into his own, and found his backbone to finally stand up to his bulky of a father. Finally he and Luke found love at last. No more meaningless, nameless sex for Luke. He was finally while once more. I love this story. Lots of ups and down. Definitely worth reading.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book
Brooke Blaine Is a new author to me but I totally loved this book.Lucas and Jackson should have been together since they were in high school but with interference from Jackson's dad that didn't happen. Fast forward 8 years and sparks fly when they meet again.I am looking forward to reading Shaw's story.Highly recommend, only negative thing to say is a book shouldn't finish at 94%, with adds for books at the end. That should be forewarned about.

A wonderful start to a new series!
I always worry that I can't bond with the first book in a series but that didn't happen with this one. Jackson and Lucas were everything I needed to enjoy this book. My heart ached at times for the years lost for these two but second chances can sometimes bring the most fantastic of endings! Thank you, Brooke for this amazing story. Definitely a keeper!

Fabulous.
Jackson and Lucas were school buddies who fell in love and after parental interference they lost touch but boy does it come back ten fold. I dislike hate and bullying of any kind so good riddance to his dad. Go read.
