Vol 2 of 2- great read on my 2nd fave potus.
Book in great shape, needed for research for a lecture on Grover Cleveland . Chose due to an absence of knowledge in general populace concerning him and his Presidency. What a leader !! Conservative and a man for the people ! Saved bigly taxpayer $$ all during his public life in any arena , Mayor, Governor, Potus [x 2] Honest in all respects. Wish we could clone him !

Classic Study
When the dernier cri on Cleveland is 74 years old - and it is - we're all in trouble. Luckily, the crier is Allan Nevins, and you don't get much better than that. This Pulitzer Prize winning biography sets the bar and now, if some aspiring graduate student would just get off MySpace and into the library, we might all benefit from a fresh look at a first-rate president.

Awful
This is probably the most boring book I've ever read. What a waste of time. I certainly would not consider it to be a "biography."

Great account of S. Grover Cleveland
Outstanding account of major figure in US history, whom few know of his rise to the presidency of the Unites States

Still the standard for Grover Cleveland
Allan Nevins won the Pulitzer Prize in 1933 for his two volume biography of Grover Cleveland and in my opinion it is still the only recommendable biography on our 22nd and 24th President over 75 years later. A couple of works on Cleveland have been released more recently (Alyn Brodsky's Grover Cleveland: A Study in Character and H.P. Jeffers Honest President) but both fall far short of supplanting Nevins work. I personally think a new, comprehensive, preferrably one volume biography of Grover Cleveland would be welcome but until then Nevins' is the only biography that I can recommend.Nevins' writing is straightforward and does not seem as dated as one might think. This biography doesn't resort to any unconventional take on history but instead recounts the life of Grover Cleveland in a level of detail appropriate for an academic biography. While the book certainly was not a page turner it was readable and comprehensive and until something else comes along to surpass it is still the best source available on Grover Cleveland.
