En famille en France....
If you were a teenager in the 70s, and you like watching French films about families and relationships, you will really enjoy this film. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I found it fascinating, charming and incredibly funny in places. Like many of Julie Delpy's films, it is slightly off the wall but there are parts in it that made me laugh out loud - it is very French! Huge family events with people's eccentricities, falling-outs and the fun of being with your cousins, first love, the mysteries of adults .... I think this is a great film.

Unmemorable
The film starts with the wonderful Karin Viard who plays the part of Albertine who reminisces about a big get together of her extended family in 1979. Karin Viard appears only very fleetingly in the film, but even so, I was expecting an entertaining and memorable film β but how wrong I was. This is a very well made film, a film that has almost documentary filming and very convincing acting of the events of the get together. The acting is faultless, as is the camera work, the lighting, the etc etc.To show such a family and their interactions in a way to make it an enjoyable and memorable film (for me) it has to offer something more than cousin A asking cousin B how they are, there has to be something particularly memorable. Although, to be fair, there are some good performances (I though that Eric Elmosnino was particularly entertaining), unfortunately my memory of the film doesnβt really go beyond Ca va? Oui, Γ§a va.With some perseverance I managed to see the film through to the end, but I doubt that I will be watching it again. On the DVD you get:Le Skylab (1 hour 49 minutes)English Subtitles (which do not appear to be optional)Scene SelectionTrailerSet Up: 5.1 Dolby digital, 2.0 Stereo.

A great film for any Francophiles to watch!
Don't let the naff name put you off, this is a sweet little film, s snap shot of French family life in the 70s. My husband is French and we thought it was a very realistic insight into the French way of life. I really liked the film as it was funny in parts and deep in others.

duller than dull
French film makers have a habit of being able to make the most ordinary and tedious event into a film which stops when they appear to run out of money. It has taken us 1 month to get through this film. If I wanted to watch la famile talk about nothing in particular for over 2 hours then I would have gone with mine somewhere. The title is completely out of place, skylab gets a fleeting mention for about 1 minute, the most exciting thing in the film is the incredibly rude and spoilt woman on the train who is one of the children in the film remembering this apparently idylic family get together. If I could have given this film half a star I would have. Not even good for practising your French.

Nostalgia
It took me back to my family Sunday get together when I was a child in the late 70s/early 80s.So many details and memories, from the Tupperware cotton ball container to the conversations...I guess it might appeal more to a French audience...
