American Architecture: A History

Good Textbook
With lots of pictures, drawings, and diagrams and a thorough coverage of every kind and every style of architectural structure from the whole inhabited history of North America with a focus on the United States, this is a textbook worth reading for every History and Architecture aficionado or aspiring or practicing professional.

WARNING No Color Images
I would give this book five stars for the comprehensive coverage, clear analysis, good images, especially building floor plans, and accessible writing of this survey of American architectural history. However, BE WARNED: the copy I received does not have the promised color plates, despite the description on Amazon, “ including 640 black and white images and 62 new color images.” Indeed, the table of contents in the book I received states, “Color plates following page 22.” There are no plates there, not even black and white images of these important buildings. This seriously compromises the book. So I've stars to the authors, but one star to the publisher, Routledge, for dropping the plates and to Amazon for false advertising.
