Expurgated or not, It's Pepys.
Samuel Pepys' complete diaries have never been completely translated as he had his own personal shorthand and the racy bits were in coded Greek or Latin, but he wrote at a critical time in British history, the plague and the great fire, and his role as a politician provides great insights to what went on behind the scenes and between the sheets in merry olde England. My copy was bought for my Kindle. --Harley Sachs, also a Kindle author.

Pepys Diary gives us a peep at the seventeenth century
This famous journal gives us glimpses of life in seventeenth century England. I say glimpses because Pepys refers to everyday life in London at the time, and some of it is confusing to the modern reader. (Why did he buy so many gloves? Yes, I will look it up.) The man's candor about his own faults, his clearly boundless energy, and his interactions with nobles and commoners make good reading.

HISTORY WRITTEN DOWN DAILY AS IT HAPPENED
17th Century history from by a man, Samuel Pepys, who wrote it down in his diary every day as he lived it. Pepys is honest and humorous even about his personal passions and life at home. He wrote about those who ruled England in an open intelligent manner as it was, not the usual history written by those who thought they made history and who then want to protect their legacy. And no one has said more about the 1666 Fire of London, the plague of 1665 and relations with England's rival Holland in the 17th Century, than Pepys. If you enjoy reading history, you will enjoy Pepys.

Diary of Sam Pepys-the book
Lost interest in finishing the book. Not the authors fault. Not my kind of subject.

A poorly printed book
We have all seen this before. Tiny print. Squashed into the middle of the page and too close to each margin.A cheap print. For me it is unreadable.

Sam Pepys' Diary
It seems somewhat impertinent to presume to give a rating to a work of literature which has stood the test of time for more than 300 years. It is hard going in places -but if it is the sort of thing that interests you then you should enjoy it.

Glad it was free
Explanatory notes etc are mixed in the text making the book unreadable for me. Glad it was free.
