Not the soundtrack!
Chances are, you've just watched "The Atomic Cafe". Maybe your interest is piqued by some of the funny songs in the film. Maybe you noticed in the credits where it says the soundtrack was available on Rounder Records, so you've gone looking. I can assure you, the item on this page is not the film soundtrack! None of the tracks listed here are in the film. You can look on the Wikipedia page for the movie, and see the actual track listing for the soundtrack LP. Now, I doubt if the soundtrack ever actually made it onto CD.Looking up info on these, there were 3 "Atomic Cafe" volumes. Listening to one, they're s mondo-lounge 60s kinda mish-mash, like the "Mood Mosaic" series...UPDATE!!!!!! The original Atomic Cafe soundtrack CAN BE FOUND IN DIGITAL FORM! In scrolling several R@pidshare sites, I found a copy, with vinyl pops from the transfer and all. Go digging for it! It'll never see CD!

excellent and a half.
I am not sure what to make of this. Atomic Cafe is packed with excellent flute funk, crime jazz, hipster music, more 1960s and early 1970s cinema wallpaper than you can throw at a Quincy Jones Sountrack. If you have a big collection of all music hip, 60s and film, you absolutely need to include this. But there are no notes included here, just the title "Music From and Inspired By The Film," and a list of composers, the only one I heard of being Gershwin, and I am not certain its even George. I looked up the film The Atomic Cafe , and it is a film about the 50s red scare and the bomb. Sounds great, but neither that or the CD tells when this music was made and where it came from. Amazon says this is music from 1950s and 1960s propaganda films, so I don't know which way is up.I love it--but what the hell is it?
