The Domestic Duck Paperback – September 22, 2008

This book has a LOT of information. It was sort of over-kill as I was just wanting basic care information. I adopted a domestic duck someone decided to throw away and got him a companion so I really just wanted to know what to feed, how to house etc. If you're REALLY into ducks and breeds etc then this is a good book for you. If you're just looking for the basics try Duck Eggs Daily by Lisa Steele.

Very informative

I rated it a 5 because it contained all the information I needed to know about raising my Call Ducks. While it does not help with my Muscovy ducks it is the perfect guide to raising ducks that are related to the Mallard. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to raise ducks.

Another small volume, but it is just packed with lots of information. My only objection, and it's minor, is that not all of the information fits the American scene.I had mine rebound in hardcover.

Looking for a more informative duck book! The Domestic Duck was not a great book!

I never received this book

I came to duck ownership just a year ago when I fell in love with Runner Ducks. I now have 6 of them roaming around my garden. As a hopefully responsible owner I wanted to ensure that I was doing the best I could for them. This book is great, the first part is about ducks in general and is full of interesting information. The second part goes into more detail on the management and understanding of the various breeds and I gained a lot of insight into how I could improve the quality of my ducks and my life. The third part which I'm hoping to get into next year was about breeding and from incubation to looking after ducklings. Nice non-patronising tone, and I think whether you are new to duck keeping like I am, or someone who is just interested in these lovely birds, you'll find something interesting and informative in this book. It has become a bit of a bible for me and I hope Donald and Co appreciate the effort I'm making on their behalf!

Really great book! I suspect I'll probably look to buy a more practical book as well as this at some point, but this provides a lot of great detail about different breeds and their histories, duck anatomy, comprehensive feeding detail, advice on health and habitat, and thorough breeding guidance. If you're just looking for a quick advice guide on how to keep ducks then this may not be the book for you, as you'll probably find yourself skipping through much of the more in depth content, but if you really want to a deep understanding of ducks then I can't imagine a much better book.
