Americans are conditioned to take drugs, and that is why so few of us use nasal irrigation to treat colds and allergies. I've relied upon over the counter cold medications for decades, but began using nasal irrigation a year ago. As an asthmatic, a colds often sent me to the doctor or emergency room with a bronchial infection. No over the counter cold medicine was ever effective enough tame my colds, nor did I enjoy taking drugs for a week or two, fighting symptoms without ever addressing the cause.Now, when I first get suspicious something is up, I use my Neti pot and this extra strength solution. When I have that initial dry or burning sensation in my sinus cavity that heralds a cold, I don't even hesitate. For the past year, I've been able to stop my colds dead before any of the serious symptoms—running nose, sneezing, coughing, chills, or aches and pains—ever begin. And I use these hypertonic packets; I don't bother with the more mild solutions that come with most Neti pots. This stuff will kick a cold to the curb, especially if you respond to those earliest symptoms.

Limited research shows that a hypertonic saline solution may be more effective in reducing nasal mucosal or nasal lining congestion on a short term basis of a few hours. The theory is that hypertonic salt solution will draw water component out of the congested nasal tissue. It is possible that you may experience temporary burning or stinging with the hypertonic solution. If you experience any burning or discomfort, please use an isotonic solution. A little too strong for me using just this packet but it was worth a try. Next tried the 50/50 mix (blue and green neilmed packets) per mfg's instructions but it was still a little harsh, but this was also just 1 week post-op. Probably would work fine for most users.

I use one packet with two cups of distilled water and it works greats. If I use one pack with one cup my sinuses won't stop draining and I continually sneeze. To remedy I literally walk outside in the dry cold Indiana weather and my sinuses dry out. For some reason this causes my sinuses to go in a frenzy. But one pack and two cups fixes that.

These are the double dose of the original packets, so they did burn slightly during the first use but then I was prepared for a little tingle. I felt they helped clean my sinuses out well, however I felt very dry in my nose then (extra salt meant extra dry??). I’ll use the rest of these, but will probably just do a double dose of the regular packs at the beginning of my colds when they run out.

I don't see where these are SUPER strong. I suffer from chronic sinitis and use nasal irrigation on a regualr basis using a SinuPulse Elite Advanced Nasal Sinus Irrigation System . I use 2.5 of these packets every night before bed with about 24 oz of water. It does help me breathe easier and sleep better every night. I couple it with Luma Comfort HCW10B Cool & Warm Mist Humidifier and a Winix Plasma wave 5300 air cleaner. I would buy these again, easy to open paper packets, you can adjust your amount according to what works for you, i have not experience any burning or discomfort aside from the typical squirting water up your nose so you can breathe.

I have used a Nettie pot for many years now, but just switched to the Extra Strength Hypertonic packs. The price was reasonable for a bulk box, and it didn't burn like I thought it might. I will definitely continue to purchase and use NeilMed products because they are trustworthy and effective.
