A Fun Throwback to the Game Every Kid Played in the 80's
Back in the 80's, every kid at my school knew how to make a paper football, and how the game was played. Depending on who you believe, though, the game actually dates back to the late 60's. And it definitely caught on in the late 70's, before it became a classroom or cafeteria ritual in the 80's. So if you're looking for something fun and nostalgic for any Gen X'er or an older Millenial, this would be it.I decided to pass the tradition along to our Daughter, who hadn't played paper football before. The set comes with different scoring ideas. Which was cool and original, although it had nothing to do with how we played as kids in the 80's. Back then, it was as simple as just trying to score a field goal. Or if your hands were the uprights, as simple as trying to avoid catching a paper football to the eye. So I decided that we'd just stick to the old-school rules. Which was a relief for our Daughter, because she wasn't a big fan of the idea of having the "ball" flicked in the direction of her face.It takes a little getting used to the weight and feel of the "ball," if you're used to the distance and control you can get with the paper version. But with a little practice, I was able to score field goals from across the room. I was actually excited that our Daughter was able to score field goals, at shorter distances. Considering this "ball" weighs a bit more than a simple folded piece of paper, I wasn't too sure that she'd be able to flick it that far. But once I showed her how to properly angle the ball, where exactly on the back of it to make contact, and how to get more power out of the plucking motion, she was doing great. Two features in particular I really like. One is that the ball is made from pleather, and has an actual textured surface that makes you think of old-school pigskin balls. The other is that because a free-standing goalpoast is included, one person can actually play on their own. Nice way to kill time if you're sitting at your desk, on the phone and placed on hold. It's a five-star product, definitely. Only reason I imagine someone would give it less than five stars, is if they never actually played paper football in school as a kid. So it's a little odd to see that some people requested it for free, but still gave it an "okay" star rating. When they aren't really familiar with the original version of the game itself. If you're not the target audience for it (like I would be), why order it?So bottom line, if you know someone that would have been in grade school or junior high/middle school from the late 70's to the late 90's in particular, odds are they played it. And should recognize the game in seconds, just looking at the shape of the "ball." Extra points if if you're getting it for someone with a kid, so that they can pass the tradition along.

Fun game for the whole family!
My son and father in law "invented" this game a while back with folded paper and hand formations, so this was a fun purchase because it allowed them to continue playing with a more formalized structure. The mat lays flat, the ball has some heft to it (a bit harder to flick than the piece of paper we used to use), and the goal post stands easily. The only deficit is that there is just the one goal post, so if you are playing this at a table with two people you have to keep passing the single goal post back and forth, which gets old. Fun game! I recommend this if you have antsy kids or sporty people in your family who like some dinnertime fun!

Fun Table Game for Kids of All Ages!
Such as cool idea for a game! I remember back in high school making these triangle footballs out of notebook paper but we always had to use our hands for the goal and so many chances you'd "shoot your eye out!". This game has a cool looking football as well as the goal and stand. I only wish the stand was more pockable for travel and use at restaurants. Overall very fun!

Old school fun
My kids and I enjoyed this football set. It was easy to set up to play and easy to use. We had fun playing together, too.

Ehhh....
It's a fun desktop decoration. I like it. Maybe you can even do some solo practice. But folding paper and creating a field goal with your hands is still the gaming standard.
