Yes it really works. The drawer opens and the mirror sides move. We gave it to my granddaughter for her 6th birthday. She loved it. I also gave her a box of stuff to use and put on the vanity.

Q: How does the mirror attach to the table?

The actual mirror is mounted in a wooden frame that attaches to the table with two included bolts and nuts. Very easy to install as there is no further assembly required for the mirror. Hope this is helpful.

Greetings from Tennessee My wife and I ordered two of those units and we were amazed at the quality and ease of assembly The fit and finish were beyond expectations for a child’s toy. As to the size, one of our granddaughters is 8 years old and very tall and she has no issues using her stool with the vanity table. We are very positive your daughter will love it and enjoy it for a very long time.

Q: Does the wood have a strong smell when taking it out of the box and assembled?

The wood is very well painted. There are hardly any unpainted areas and there was no noticeable smell other than fresh clean material. Hope this is helpful.
