Spoiler-free: A lovely first words book with lots of different words and colourful images!
This is a lovely board book which is just perfect for teaching youngsters all sorts of different first words. 'Maisy's Day Out' is a lovely board book with rounded edges which is just perfect for little hands to hold and touch as it won't hurt them, and each page is glossy and very colourful. There are pictures on every page along with the various words for each little image and each double page is a section with different words on it and a different day out for Maisy. The sections all have their own tab and image at the top and side of the book so it's easy to find the section you want to show kids. Each section has lots of different things pictured and the words clearly displayed next to them so kids can have fun learning these new words. There are sections such as in the park, things that move and even a section of the things you'd get at a birthday party! Every section has a decent amount of items and I love how there are more creative things pictured with their word such as in things that move you have a pushchair. There's something I love about Lucy Cousisn's illustrations, they are always so colourful and bold with that thick outer black line which makes the images all stand out more. I love the way Maisy and her friends look throughout the pages too. Having it be a book featuring Maisy and friends, rather than just a random book of first words, makes this all the more fun as children can try to spot Maisy and friends throughout the pages. The smaller size of this book along with it's bold and colourful pages and the broad range of first words to learn just makes this book so appealing to me and I'm sure many others. Although some reviews I've read question the use of some words, like birthday cake or hay bales and things like that as not being typical words to use in a first words book, I do think a book with more variety is still very fun. Children will learn these words anyway, throughout life and play and there are plenty of 'traditional' first words in here too. Overall this is a lovely book and if you like the style of the images then I'd definitely get this as a first words book, afterall I think it's important to find a book that kids will engage in and this colourful one certainly feels like something many kids will enjoy looking at.-Thanks to Walker Books for a free copy for review.

Maisy's Day Out is a lovely little board book
Maisy's Day Out is a lovely little board book that has been illustrated beautifully and is study and tough in little hands. The book is split into 10 sections each focusing on a different aspect of life and contains a few words associated with that aspect. From In the Garden to Thing that Go and Sunny Days.Whilst I think little children will love the book, especially Maisy fans, I do see them struggling with a few of the words as some are not words I would of put in a book which states 'A First book of Words'.For example - hay bales, wheelbarrow and vegetable patch. Most though are words that are ease to decipher and the images accompanying each word make it easy to see what the word states.*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

Categorised word book with familiar characters
My two year old loves Maisy, we read her 'First Experiences' series regularly. This is, I would say, designed for a younger child, though he has asked me to read this to him several times already.Maisy's Day Out consists of 10 pages, each themed differently:Best friends, park, beach, sea, farm, vehicles, sunny days, rainy days, garden, birthday. For each there's a big picture with Maisy in a scene denoting the subject, then the other page gives up to a dozen related terms and illustrations. The colours and style are recognisable as Lucy Cousins', the vocabulary are all relevant to the subjects and there is lots to say about items on every page. Each picture has the label next to it as well, and every page has a tab at the top so you can find a favourite page easily.A good small size for small hands, easy to turn pages, plenty to look at, and will likely be returned to multiple times. For ages 1-3.With thanks to Walker Books for the sample reading copy.

Well thought out board book
I remember my own first words book many, many, many years ago! It consisted mainly of words like Ball, Cow, Pig, and so on, so i was surprised that this book has longer, more sophisticated words such as Ostrich, ,Tallulah, Dragonfly etc. That's not a criticism, i think it's great to teach children longer words as soon as possible. This is a lovely board book, with ten sections with corresponding words, such as, "On the beach" some of the items ate, Bucket and spade, seagull, lighthouse, ferry, and so on. It's a good interactive book, if it's raining, you can go to the umbrella down the side of the book and open it to "Rainy days" where you'll be able to count how many things you might have seen yourself. The side of the book is like a telephone index book, but instead of A-Z, there's pictures depicting the different sections. You have....In the park. On the beach. In the sea. On the farm. Things that go. Sunny days. Rainy days. In the garden, and lastly, Happy Birthday Maisy.Thank you to Walker Books for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
