Another excellent BBC dramatization
This is the third BBC radio dramatization I have listened to, and they are all top-notch. The voice actors are outstanding, as is the music and sound effects. This one in particular has some outstanding performances, including Eartha Kitt as the python Kaa, and especially Jonathan Hyde who portrays Bagheera the black panther. The low, growly purr with which he intersperses his speech is awesome. The swarm of bees were also well done; the weakest was the pack of wild dogs, who sounded more like a pack of wild chihuahuas. :)I haven't yet read Kipling's original (it is on my TBR stack), but one thing that struck me was the way he typecast various animals the opposite of their typical "stereotypes." That is, the good guys -- a python, a pack of wolves and a black panther -- are animals that would usually be cast as villains, while the monkeys -- who are usually portrayed as funny, friendly, almost-human animals -- were the villains. Interesting.I highly recommend this.

The Law of the Jungle
This was one of my favorite stories from childhood and I must admit that it hasn’t lost its appeal. The Jungle Book is the story of the little man cub who gets separated from his family by the tiger Shere Khan. The little man cub toddles into the wolf pack straight to the strong mother wolf who is charmed by the fearlessness of the naked little creature. Mother Wolf decides they will keep the small cub, name him Mowgli after the frog, and present him to the pack. Of course Mother has to chase off Shere Khan first, which makes Mother very fearsome and the tiger look rather pitiful.Baloo the bear stands for the man cub at council and promises to teach him Jungle Law and Bagheerah the black panther bought Mowgli’s life with the price of one fine large bull.Akela, the wise old leader of the pack decided that it was good to have a man cub in their pack, for they were known to be very clever and fierce. He was sure that one day, the cub that was hunted by the tiger would be the hunter of the tiger and would bring his skin to Council Rock. The personalities of the jungle kingdom were so fun, and I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this book. It is written in beautiful prose with a loving hand and this will likely not be the last time that I read it.

A beautiful colour book
This is a very nicely arranged, pretty colouring book with a lot of very detailed images. This book has dual-sided images, with decent quality paper. I still recommend testing your markers or pens first to ensure that they do not bleed through. Some of the images in this book are white on black images and the majority of them are black on white.Bits and pieces of the original story are quoted here and there throughout the book and a brief history of the jungle book is provided on the last page, as well as a short bit about Kipling. I like the way the pictures are arranged in this book, as there are plenty of variations in detail that allow the colourist to choose how complex of a picture they feel like working on. The paper works well with coloured pencils and gel pens and the pictures look fantastic once they have been coloured. This would make a nice addition to the library of any book collector, someone who loves to color or as a gift for anyone who is a Kipling fan.

Some illustrations could have been discreet
This book was released July 1, 2018 and I pre-ordered without reviews as none were available. I was surprised to find 2700 reviews on this book right after Amazon received it in mid-July, 2018. My review is for "this specific book." Amazon has generic reviews listed for this book of all the Rudyard Kipling "Jungle Books" they sell, so we customers do not know what reviews applies to what books. Amazon did this also with Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories many books Amazon sells. Not acceptable! This specific book, released July 1, 2018, is abridged with illustrations that can help a child understand how a boy could grow up with animals in the wild. Well written story. Definitely for ages 5 and up. I will give it to my grandson, but feel I cannot give it to my granddaughters because it has various illustrations of boy nudity from the back. 1 picture of bare butt would have been enough; the other illustrations could have had foliage discreetly hiding the nudity.

Very Enjoyable!
My 4 year old, whose language skills are not particularly strong, has been listening to this CD for months and learned quite a bit of new vocabulary. It is a very fun story that can be understood on different levels at different ages. For young children it might be best to start out by reading an easier version of the story to acquaint them with the characters and general idea (we did this via a very well done ipad app). Although I'm ready to move on to another CD, I'm happy that my son has really learned to enjoy and question a great story through this CD!

Lovely book
Beautiful version of this Rudyard Kipling classic. The colouring of the cover is a little different than pictured and there is less colouring in than I had expected but in all a great book.
