Thoroughly Modern Millie [DVD] [1967] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] [2003]

This is a spectacular musical production starring Julie Andrews as an eager young Millie Dillmount. She arrives in New York City in the 1920's seeking a secretarial job for a rich, handsome eligible boss. She decides to have her hair 'bobbed' to match the fashion of the time and even buys new clothes and beads. Millie checks into a women's hotel, run by Mrs Meers (an excellent character played by Beatrice Lillie), who also runs a white slavery ring, she meets the beautiful, naive Miss Dorothy (Mary Tyler Moore). Millie does suceed in getting her job with a very handsome boss, Trevor Graydon (John Gavin), but he only has 'eyes' for Miss Dorothy. Millie is therefore forced to do with Jimmy Smith (James Fox), a paper-clip salesman. They attend a party at the Long Island estate of the wealthy Muzzy van Hossmere (Carol Channing). Millie finds that Miss Dorothy has disappeared! When she and Jimmy detect the scent of opium in Mrs Meers's room, they realise she has a sideline. The valiant Jimmy must go in drag to uncover the whereabouts of the white slavers' hideout......Listen out for the 'Oh pook', 'sad to be all alone in the world' and 'shoe show', a catchphrase that will last forever!The cast and crew perform admiraly in this light farce that is almost too sweet for its own good!A must-see movie for all ages.

I purchased the soundtrack sometime ago and now I have this remastered dvd safely in my collection! Whatever did we do before Amazon?! It’s wonderful to retrieve favourite films like this.I never get tired of watching this hilarious musical. Apparently Julie Andrews was instrumental in coaxing the indefatigable Beatrice Lillie out of retirement to play ‘Mrs Meers’, the devious slave-trading ‘house mother’ of the ‘Ladies Only’ hotel, where the story opens. This great character actress gives what can only be described as the performance of her long and distinguished career. Thwarted by Andrews at every turn, it’s a joy to watch her ploys to dope the lovely Mary Tyler Moore come to nothing! The Broadway star Carol Channing brings her special brand of zaniness to to the party. James Fox and the handsome John Gavin do their best to compete with their female stars, but it’s Andrews who keeps the whole thing together as the redoubtable ‘Millie’. All the components - music, songs, choreography and dialogue blend into a film which is just pure entertainment!A great addition to any collection.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is one of the great musical comedy films of the 1960’s.If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth watching👍

I’ve loved this film ever since I was a child. Julie Andrews is superb in it. Great supporting cast too. It’s such a feel good film with so much fun, a bit of seriousness with regards to the white slave trade theme, great dancing/singing/costumes. I never tire of watching it. 10/10

Watched this when I was 13, bought this for my 13 year old granddaughter and she loved it

Arrived earlier than the estimated delivery date. Not a bad film, although, some of the apparent 'funny bits' went right over my head. However, I did laugh when they had to dance to get the elevator to move.

My wife loves this film and I ordered it for her to watch after she had surgery. The DVD arrived promptly and in good condition.This is a real fun film even though it is years old and still very funny in places despite repeated viewings. My wife loved it - my only real disappointment was that I couldn't find a blu-Ray version but that is the film companies fault.The image quality is decent and the film is a must own.Definitely recommended

Bought this having not seen it for decades and was pleased that it had worn so well. Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore on sparkling form. Gorgeous art deco sets and costumes. Fun and catchy music. Great for any kids who like Sound of Music and Mary Poppins and are wanting more of Julie Andrews.
