good shorefishing rod
my go-to rod was an 8'-6" medium action from a larger, more well know brand. both rods are in the same price range (sub-120.00), but i have been looking for a longer one to be able to cover more ground without sacrificing too much control when the fish is on.being a weekend warrior, i havent had much time (or is it luck?) to put this rod through a true test of its abilities. most, if not all of the fish recently caught are small reef dwelling fish (small jack crevalle, goatfish, trumpetfish) within the 1-2 pound range. this rod handles them with ease. the small jacks with their last minute blast of energy is stopped short. the butt section is fairly stout, and im confident this rod will be able to have its way with hard fighters at or around the 10 pound range.the overall quality is good, and inspires confidence. the guides are top quality by fuji. the windings however, could have been tighter, and the flex coat appears to be minimal; especially at the guides. the color scheme is muted which is a advantage; the last thing i want to do is be distracted by gaudy shocking colors.the cork handle is also nice. the quality is on par with other rods with cork handles. definitely not high-end product, as there appears to be alot of filler and gaps in the material. i do appreciate the aesthetic aluminum spacer at the lower handle, and the ergonomic shape of the handle at the reel seat.i am disappointed, however, that tica opted not to include a hook keeper. this is a standard item in rods within this price range.this is my first purchase with this brand, although i have discovered online that the general consensus is positive. i suppose i can be included within that community now. i would consider another sturdier rod for plugging with lures.lastly, i must add that i am greatly satisfied with the shipping fee and packaging of the rod. as an amazon prime member, i paid less than purchasing this rod locally at a shop.

Big rod with lots of muscle!
Tica SS-S 14 foot-heavy....it a big boy! This is a ideal surf fishing rod. Especially where longer casts are the rule. Though only rated 1/2 to 1 3/4 oz, I think that is way short of its potential. Even being Older with arthritis, I am able to cast a bait rig, with a 2 oz pyramid sinker, with 20 lb 9 strand braid over 80 yards. I know that most experienced surf fishermen will be able put 3 or 4 ounce weights out well past 100 yards. This rod has a lot of backbone. As for river fishing for Salmon and Steelhead, I think it will be best on big water bank fishing with heavier spoons and spinners. As far as floats and jig fishing, it has plenty of length to mend line for the longest drifts. As stiff as this rod is however, I would think that the medium or medium light would be better suited and less fatiguing for repetitive casting and mending line required in floating jigs. The lighter models would likely be better suited for normal 1/2 spinners and spoons as well. I also think this is a perfect East Coast surf rod for the bigger strippers and other big fish more common there! I love this rod and have it paired with a Dawia BG 3500 and 280 yards of 20 pound braid. It’s perfect for longer casts into our bigger surf, for our smaller, most common, Red Tail Surf Perch!

Fish on!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is one of my all time favorites! I already purchased the 9’6” Heavy, about 2-3 years ago. I just bout the 10’.I fish in San Francisco and the Bay Area. 90% of it being saltwater fishing. I specifically get Heavy for the type of fishing I’m doing. This rod is lightweight and strong! Yet super sensitive as well!Being that I’m targeting striper, halibut, I need something that has enough power to fight the good fight. Sometimes I end up fighting a leopard shark or a big ray (as shown next to a crab net).. However, I still want something sensitive enough to slap on a hi-Lo rig and try for perch, smelt and anything small that bites.Casting: I cast from a 1/2 ounce to a 3 ounce weight or lure. This rod launches those weights no problem! This rod has its casting weight recommendation but I don’t follow them. Cast away with no fear of snapping the rod.As always, fishing saltwater, I seal the cork handles and add on heat shrink x-wrap for added protection! Rinse with freshwater ASAP after every fishing trip. I highly recommend this rod!

Quality build and components, not fast action
Really wanted this product to work out. Been looking for an alternative to big, heavy, broomstick surf rods. Figured the length of salmon rods will do. That almost worked out with this product except that even though it’s listed has Heavy and Fast action, it is far more of a slow moderate action. You can feel the bend all the way to the butt end of the handle. Shame, really wanted to like this product. Fine build quality and nice components.

Poor workmanship
The media could not be loaded. I bought the Tica HLHB Salmon/Steelhead spinning rod 9’6” Heavy. My friend has a similar rod but 10’ which he owned for a couple of years now and he use it frequently. He bought it at a local tackle shop for a slightly higher price. When I saw this rod in Amazon I was enticed to buy one for myself. The shipment to Hawaii was quick. At first look the rod looks beautiful but was a little tip heavy. The packaging was damaged but the rod seemed to be fine. Personally I don’t like the bulging handle but that’s just preference. This rod casts a good distance. I use it with Daiwa SP minnow. I haven’t caught anything with it yet. I used this rod twice so far with a total of about 25-30 casts. When I got home from the second use (I always inspect my rods after rinsing) I noticed that the first/bottom guide which by the way is unusually small was loose (video). I take good care of my gears. I have rods (Tsunami Airwave, Penn Prevail and Batallion, Okuma Cedros, etc) that are 5-10 years old and has had frequent use but none had the same issues. I think this is just a result of poor workmanship. I am returning this rod and I am not sure if I will purchase another one. I have a 9’ Shimano Clarus that I owned for a year now and gets used almost every weekend and so far holding up pretty well. I will try a Tsunami Trophy II distance and hopefully won’t have the same issue.

Looks like a good rod but disappointed about my $190 reel not fitting
The rod doesn't fit all spinning reels. I have a brand new Pen II 5000 that I bought to catch big fish and it doesn't fit. I wish the specs would give you the dimensions for the size of reels you can use now I gotta spend another 100-150 on a rod that is good for 25 to 30 lbs...

Good rod for money
Bought the 10' medium model good rod for the money have caught several salmon with this rod up to 20 pounds. Was a bit nervous ordering this rod with other negative reviews, but am quite happy. I went and ordered the 12' model for beach casting and bottom bouncing. Second one arrived damaged box abused 3 eyelits bent to crap... not tica's fault but they need to ship these things better! Put rods in a hard tube before putting in a flimsy easily bent cardboard box !
