Takes us there .
This is a marvellous companion piece to Recording the Beatles by Kevin Ryan & Brian Kehew .Alistair Lawrence also makes us feel as if we are there and part of it's history . The sheer volumeof varied and important recordings from this great studio is awe inspiring . A couple of minor points ,it seems Geoff Emerick is still considered persona non grata at Abbey Road . He really must have steppedon a few toes . Also , there is a mistake when he quotes some lyrics from the Hoagy Carmichael classic"Rockin' Chair " as sung by Paul Robeson . The Lyrics printed here are from The Band's classic " Rockin'Chair " written by Robbie Robertson . However , for me this is a charming mistake . I love both songs .The names , Sir George Martin , Norman Smith , Maicolm Addey and Norrie Paramour and others areresponsible for many of our most treasured memories .

Too Thin On Technical Details
I was hoping for solid TECHNICAL information on Abbey Road Studios, but instead found a lot of fluff. Abbey Road broke mountains of new technical ground, but there's almost no mention of any of that unique greatness. Where are the floor plans? Details on sound treatments? Explorations into stereo? Tape loop echo chambers? What mics were available, and which were used and why? What were being used for monitor speakers and amps? Maybe it's just me, but I'm far more interested in a photo of the mixer settings than of a person sitting at a mixer (and, tragically, the mixer's out of focus!).

All I was hoping it would be
A great book chronicling the history of Abbey Road. It's informative and has great photos that I've never seen before. If you have "Recording The Beatles" by Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew then you need to buy this as well. It's a great companion piece for "Recording The Beatles" and similar in it's look and in-depth coverage. But not just fro Beatle fans, it starts at the beginning in 1933 and has a great cross section of music; jazz, classical, comedy and rock. Highly recommended!

More coffee table than content
Beautiful book. Lovely pictures. Light on content. Good for visual history but thin on historic data.

Get This Book
If you are a Beatles fan or recording enthusiast you must get this book. Just back from England and standing in front of Abbey Road Studios, this book was a must for me. Just the photos in the book are incredible. Now this book is not about The Beatles, but obviously they are included as well as other 60's groups within it's own chapter. Also, this book was a perfect table book. I can't believe this is the first review. Get it now......................

A great book for the studio - but not for Beatles fans...
I bought this book as part of academic research and found it very informative. It explains the rich history the studio has - even without the Beatles it would have been a historic gem! The Beatles are not mentioned very much - but that makes sense: what else is there to say? The "Recording the Beatles" book is a great companion work and covers everything you'd want to know. Meanwhile, by limiting the Beatles in this book they made room for other wonderful information.

Pitch sale text was misleading...
Great stuff about the early days of the studio, richly illustrated with pictures. However, based on the text promoting the book, I thought I'd find lots of stuff about the recordings of pop\rock artists in the 60's onwards. What I did find was just a bit of trivia and pictures; even the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bowie and other great artists were underrepresented in this book about the studio they all came out to world's fame and acclaim. In two words:disappointing book.
