The Fourth Tower of Inverness

Carried me back to 1972
The story of Jack Flanders and his adventures seem to be widely unknown today. I discovered these adventures through "Moon Over Morocco" as a college freshman back in the day, an ongoing radio serial of about 10 minutes per night. I had heard of the Fourth Tower of Inverness then but had never heard it until finding these. Chock full of then hippie inspired mysticism and the "counter culture", these adventures carry me back to those naiive days when many of us were exploring a range of ideas, many of which later would be cast aside as we matured and dealt with the realities of life. However, these are still fun, modeled after classic movie and radio serials of the 1940's with outrageously imaginative story lines and implausible happenings. The sound quality is surprisingly very good and these are as fun as I remember them being! And for you youngins, this is the kind of thing your parents (or grandparents) used to listen to while getting high and taking a break from their college homework!

One of the greatest radio theater productions ever
The Fourth Tower of Inverness The Fourth Tower of Inverness , $37.60, holds its own alongside the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the best material from Firesign Theater. If you like good radio theater and if you like the more modern stuff like HHGTTG and FT, you'll really appreciate this.It took me a while to overcome the price because I had listened to a borrowed copy long ago when it first came out, but I finally had to have my own copy and can't wait to take a long drive so I can listen to it again.NB: Feb 2, 2018. It looks like Amazon is out of stock and has a price of $150 for the CDs. I'm pretty sure you can still buy this for $30 directly from the creator Meatball Fulton at his website zbsDOTorg. At least it looks that way when you go to that site..

Beyond description!
I first heard Fourth Tower in the early 80's on a local radio station. It was immediately one of my favorite things in the world, and I sought a copy for years. Finding a CD copy was even better! So what is it? Part mystery, part fantasy, it concerns Jack Flanders and his search for the Fourth Tower, which only appears at mysterious times and may or may not even be enterable. At the Inverness estate there are a cast of true characters, including Lord and Lady Jowels, Little Frieda (a cigar smoking little firl), Far Seeing Art, the Madonna Vampira, and let's not foprget the Wurlitzer of Wisdom, where 25 cents gets you snippets from Ram Dass' tapes. If it sounds a bit like a toned down Firesign Theatre, you'd be right. If it sounds like great fun, you'd be right again!

Great old-time radio drama!
This radio series takes me back to 1972 when I was a freshman in college. Like so many students, it was my habit to stay up late listening to our student radio station while studying. Each night they aired an episode that was so fascinating. I identified with Jack Flanders as he made his way to the Fourth Tower seeking the legendary Lotus Jukebox. Along his journey I was introduced by a unique and intriguing cast of characters. So, sit back, close your eyes, and imagine yourself transformed into Jack's adventure!

Obscure, fascinating, addicting
I love this series. My husband had heard it over public radio years ago and I got him one of the many CD sets for Xmas last year. Now I'm hooked and we listen to them together whenever we have a long car ride. They're a fun mix of adventure, fantasy, and psychology with some pop culture thrown in for fun.

Nostalgia rewarded!
I worked at a public radio station in the 60s and 70s and remembered this series fondly, but could never explain it to anyone who hadn't actually heard it. Now I have it and can just play it for them. :) I was thrilled to find out that it was available!

Excellent fun and philosophy
I first heard this over public radio years ago when I was just a kid. I was so delighted to find it on Amazon last week. Hearing it both took me back to childhood and, even better, now I get a lot more out of it. My whole family is huddled around the CD player at night. Not quite the same as radio, but at least my children are getting a taste of radio drama.

Gift
My Dad requested this because he remembers the shows on the radio. I think he has listened to it 50 times already. He swears it is one of M. Fulton's best. If you know someone who loves these old shows get them this one.
