This Grater Passed My Tests With Flying Colors!
I lost my citrus zester. I don't know how it happened, but one day it just wasn't there! My workarounds weren't especially successful, as evidenced by the cut on the top of my thumb. Amazon to the rescue!!!My first impressions opening this package were that the grater was quite a bit larger than I expected, which I consider a good thing. I was also very impressed that it came with a thick, high-quality cover.I wanted to test it out immediately. I started with a lime. I only zested a little bit from it, because I didn't want to ruin the entire lime when I wasn't planning to use it right away. As is always the case, it took a little bit of pressure to get the zest started, but the grater worked very well and was no more difficult to use than any other grater I've owned. Next, I wanted to test it on something with a very different texture...chocolate! This is the BEST grater I've ever used for fine chocolate shavings. It was so quick and easy!Cleaning up a grater is never something I enjoy, since I'm always scared I'm going to either cut my fingers or destroy a sponge/dishrag. I decided to use my small silicone scrubber and ran it against the grain so I wouldn't risk cutting it up. It cleaned up with very little effort. The last step of my testing was melting the chocolate and lime zest together so I could eat it. I guess this step really had nothing to do with the grater, but it was also a complete success!I highly recommend this grater!

Great grater for ginger and zest - Easy to use and easy to clean
I tend to make a lot of recipes that call for fresh grated ginger (Asian soups, sauces, etc.) and also ones that call for zest (muffins mainly...). Up until now I was using a large "box" style grater for these tasks but it was a pain to use because the grated ingredients ended up stuck on the inside of the box and were hard to scrape out completely. Cleaning the grater was hard as the ginger and lemon tends to get stuck in the individual holes and is hard to clean out since it's not easy to access the other side (the inside) of a box grater. This KitchenAid grater has been the perfect replacement for my ginger and zest needs. It is small enough that I can simply hold it over wherever I want the grated ingredients to fall, and since both sides are completely accessible I can easily make sure I get every last bit off of it. This also makes cleanup easy as it is much easier to get any stuck particles out of the grating. The long handle is well balanced which makes using it comfortable. I like that it also includes the plastic cover so I can throw it in a drawer without worrying about it snagging on things. Dishwasher safe rounds out the list of convenience features.Very pleased with this grater overall. Save your box grater for things like vegetables and cheese and use this one for the smaller tasks like ginger or zest.

Super product - unless you want the best
This is a great greater. Really good. Much better than most. Really sharp, nice and big, egonomic comfy controllable handle. Cleans up in the dishwasher. So much better than supermarket ones that break after a little use. We are using it every week, and certainly recommend it. But . . .There is better. For the same money the classic Microplane grater better, especially if you cook a lot. It has super sharp cutting points all over, and is just as easy to handle and clean. It's what pros use, and they are not really expensive. So, ranked: I'd say there are the cheap rubbish ones good for college or occasional cooks, this one good for a long life of useful service, and Microplane which is the best performing grater for foodie cooks. My wife went to culinary school and we cook. A lot. Hope this quick honest review is useful for you.

Good handle, small cutting surface
This KitchenAid KO321OHOBA Gourmet Etched Fine Grater, One Size, Onyx Black is a grater for citrus zest, hard cheese, chocolate, and similar items to be grated very finely.I like the feel of the handle and that a cover is included since the grating surface is quite sharp. I know to be careful when washing it.I found that this grater works best with short, swift strokes. If I get the angle wrong, it doesn't cut at all. While I do think this is a very nice fine grater, I prefer the microplane and it is currently $15 compared to $20 for this grater.

Larger than expected!
I do like this grater - I have been using it more for very finely grated cheese than for any zesting or chocolate grating, but I find it good for that. Itโs easy to grate and I just rinse it off and pop it in the dishwasher to clean. The grater in general is a lot bigger than I thought it would be, I can only fit it sideways in my kitchen drawer on a slight diagonal! But itโs not a huge deal, still fine to store and does a good job so I am happy with it. Grip is also nice as it is sort of soft.

Amazing Grater
Overall this is an amazing grater, it fits your hand quite well, it feels sold, well constructed and grates things like nutmeg effortlessly. Also the way the grater is designed the holes arent raised noticeably which really helps prevent you from grating your hand when you are grating smaller things like smaller nuts. The only thing I would love to see with this that keeps it from being a 5 out of 5 star product is a rubber tip to keep the grater from sliding when your resting it on a plate or bowl when you are grating more.
