The Articulate Jazz Musician: Mastering the Language of Jazz (Bass Clef Instruments), Book & Online Audio Paperback – January 1, 2013

I have many years classical experience, but the jazz feel is something I never really took the time to sit down and learn in depth. This book starts somewhere around intermediate for alto sax, and the reader should be comfortable with sight reading. Even in the first piece there's already a lot of subtlety and things to think about. I like the recordings, and the written notes throughout hit a nice balance between stylistic suggestions while still leaving some space for interpretation. You could spend a year on this book alone just getting the feel and details down.

I just started the book so I can't really comment on the content of the writing although upon first glance it looks pretty good. My only disappointment with the book is that my copy did not include the CD. I had to burn a copy from my piano teacher. His book had the CD glued inside the back cover, whereas the inside back cover of mine was bare and definitely looked like nothing had ever been glued to it.

The cover states this is the GUITAR version, but there is no guitar in the book or on the CD, A guitarist is not going to use the same articulations as a horn player or other wind instruments. The phrasing can still be applied and is helpful.

There are no play along tracks without drums!!! The only thing they do is take away the horn melody! It actually says in the book that it recommends drummers play along with piano!?!?! WTF?!? I bought a book and CD to play along with drums and it says I should play melodies along with the tracks on piano?!? If I wanted to play along on piano I would have bought a piano book. I know how to play piano thank you very much. Waste of money for drummers!!! Do not buy this book!!

I wish i read the reviews 1st. Bought the drum version.This is a book for saxophone - they stamped all the other instruments on the cover and sold everyone the sax book.It is a GREAT learning tool for a sax player. But not worth spending the money for anything else. The songs are good the ideas are good - but you can get that from other authors and publishers who make materials for the instrument that you play.It was an act of shameless profiteering to label this for any other instrument than sax.

Lots of interesting material here, but a disappointment for bass players - despite the book being labelled for bass and containing written bass parts, the audio tracks do not have removable bass parts as most other books do. Same goes for drums, apparently.

これまでJazz Articulation Methidなる解説本はありませんでした。譜面通りに演奏してもジャズらしく聴こえません。Jazzには独特なArticulationのルールあるため、そのことを理解しないとジャズにはならないのです。そのことを音節ごとに丁寧に解説しています。日本語版でないのが残念！
